    I don't have a mobile phone
    PS I don't have a landline either.

How would you anticipate this bank contacting you if necessary for security/fraud reasons, etc?

As Sea Shell alluded to above, Nationwide is the only bank I can think of right now that doesn't require a phone at all, just their card reader.

NatWest also uses a card reader for new payees, no phone required for this purpose

    I don't have a mobile phone...

    Edit: I don't have a landline either.

However did you manage to post this message?

...and how do you expect to receive PAYM payments with no phone?

    1. Use a computer
    2. No interest in PayM
  • Yes (weary sigh) we know you used a computer to post your message.

What we would be interested to know is how, given that you say you have no mobile and also no landline by what method did you connect to the internet.
I myself presume that you did this either by
    1. Using someone else's connection - friend/relation etc
    2. Using free (and some would say highly risky security-wise) wi-fi at an internet cafe/library etc

You say you have no interest in PAYM - well on the thread highlighted/linked by poster "Vortigern" you were specifically asking about using it so obviously you do or did have an interest in using it.

  • You're not helping ChiefGrasscutter go away.

Thanks others for your info on the accounts. Seems like its Santander only that needs SMS confirmations on transfers (very annoying). Perhaps I can do it with Santander using telephone banking.

Or maybe I will go with Nationwide as I didn't realise there were any banks left that didn't use pincards.

    What ApplePay hysteria?

It's just an alternative payment system. All the other systems are still there too - and they're not going to replaced by ApplePay. Why would they be?

No-one has to use it if they don't want to.

If you don't agree that there is ApplePay hysteria I have to ask what planet you're on. It's announced almost everywhere with a fanfare as if to say that everyone has a compatible Apple device.

What about Masterpass which has been around for longer and is far more mature. Then there is Paypal mobile payments which never really got off the ground. That's to name but two which work on most devices and are not confined to only one device brand as is Apple Pay.

If anyone wants to buy Apple so they can use Apple Pay then fair enough but they should recognise that Apple Pay is Apple marketing at its most shameless!

no they don't need it for all 'transfers'. The OTP code is required when setting up a new payee, or a new SO

how are you going to do this if you don't have a mobile or a landline?

whatever your beef is with Apple and/or Apple Pay, it doesn't make Apple's marketing 'shameless', and it doesn't mean there is an Apple Pay hysteria except perhaps in your mind. Glad you accept that people can buy Apple products if they feel like it.
