So have just popped my 15% OP in the post. I nearly didn't do it. Suddenly started thinking maybe it would be better to save it. But it's gone now. A grand total of €19,686 that to be quiet honest if I wasn't on this journey I probably would have whittled away with nothing to show for it.
I have €90 to last me until the end of the month. This is just for sundry spends. So that's quiet a lot.
I bought a few new born nappies in Aldi yesterday. Only €1.99 for 24. I always used the leading brand before. I'm going to give re-usables a go once the baby is about 4 weeks old. They have a hefty initial outlay but hopefully I will get the return. More importantly the environment will have a few thousand less nappies getting sent to landfill.
That's all for now.

My Capital reduction has finally been applied and my mortgage total now stands at:€110,969
This day last year it was €157,514.
So I have overpaid €40,456 in 12 months. Dead chuffed with myself and while I know I won't be able to come close to that figure next year I'll keep chugging away until i get at least under the 100k mark.

Hi fancynancy... Hello from another irish lass!
Our stories are quiet similar... I was married 2001, daughter in 2002, separated, divorced.. Met new partner in 2009.. Now have a little 3 year old together!
Also like you in that I remain financially independent... None of that in for a penny on for a pound for me either!!
I live in Northern Ireland but work in the Republic... So have the unfortunate situation of earning euro and having all my expenses in sterling... Mortgage, full time child care etc etc... The euro rate is so bad at the moment... It's depressing!!
Good luck on your mortgage free journey!!0 -
Starfish that's probably the worst situation to be in. The conversion rate is so bad right now.
You need to move south and get a job across border :rotfl:
have you got a diary on here? I know gaffel is in NI as well.
thanks for reading my diary. It's great to get a bit of encouragement from others.:jMFW Target Jan 2016 Sub €100k

Fantastic overpayment fancynancy77 :-) well done! :T:T:T I posted my big cheque off today, dithered for a week but then just went for it (more in annoyance at the mortgage company who have STILL NOT applied by big OP from 6th July!). I have now made a formal complaint and they are looking into it.

Getting to the sub 100k will be fantastic and very liberating. I now have a completely different outlook on life.
Oh starfish1975 you are in the worst of worlds atm! I am the opposite, live in ROI but work in NI. I took great advantage of the weak euro and changed all my savings and converted it as the rate was so good! When I seen it hit 1.435 I just did it all! It's funny being a cross border worker, I know the rates daily

Gaffel... Are you like me.. And have 2 purses.. A sterling one and a euro one?? Lol..
Think I just need to ride it out... Some years back the rate was almost even.. So it's just swings and roundabouts!
I like my job in the Republic.. And have the ability to work from home a few days a week.. And to be honest you can't put a price on that flexibility.. Work/life balance.. Especially with kids!
I actually did move the the Republic when I separated from my husband in 2006.. But moved back to my hometown in the north in 2013! Although in fairness distance wise it only equated to a 2 mile move.. As I live in a border town! With education and health system in the north it was a better move for me!0 -
No.. I don't maintain a diary.. Not too sure what category I fall into... I know the house that I am in is not my final house... I would like to build in a semi rural location.. And when the time comes I will rent out my current house.. So hence in no urgency to over pay my mortgage.. Would rather build up my savings for new build!!0

Starfish I agree. You can't put a price on flexibility when you're trying to work around kids. Being close to family is so important too.
My family don't live in my face but if I need them they are always there. I wonder how others hold down a job with small children. When my DD was a toddler she had constant ear/throat infections. If it weren't for my family I don't know where I would've been. She's hardy now and very rarely gets sick.
just done the end of month accounts. So I think I have savings of €2600 to send to OP account. Well that is what I have sent . BUT I've put €1000 of that into an instant access a/c because I'm just being a bit cautionary at this stage in my pregnancy. You never know what could crop up.
It's been and continues to be an expensive month. Medical costs, 5 week month, DP here full time (eats like a horse), holidays, bored DD.
I've taken a hit on my grocery spends and on my "farting money". (money for farting around :rotfl:)
To balance it out though DD's dad saw fit to pay maintenance this month and last month which I never count on to be honest. Still I think I need to rethink my budgets somewhat.
