well not much spending being done as I am bed bound and pretty miserable.
But I'm still a MFW even if my bottom hurts.
So had my shopping delivered today from Tesco online. They honoured my "spend €50 get €10 off" Aldi voucher.
They also delivered an extra milk which the delivery driver told me to keep (now in freezer)
AND . . .
I got a free gift of two new expensive brand cooked ham and those sandwich slim bread things.:j
I've ordered my school uniform stuff for next september. I could have got them in Tesco and maxed out my CC points but they didn't have a great selection for our uniform colours.
So everything ordered for €56.74 with free delivery. I'm not bothering with school shoes as DD has some that we bought this year that were hardly worn and are still a bit big.
She does a lot of sports though so will need a new pair of A$ics gel. Great trainers and well worth the €35 or so quid they usually cost.
So that's books (ordered online for €96) and uniforms covered in case I go early. all this comes from my €300 school budget that I've saved since January.
I'm giving my DP €100 from my shares sell. He's unbelievably good to me and he's going out with his friends tomorrow night for dinner and drinks and I want him to have a great time. He feels funny about taking the money but he will. I'd say he can't wait to get away from me. I'm a total cripple at the moment.
So my OP account is on notice to allow me to withdraw on July 18th. I think I'm going to be able to make my 15% overpayment which is actually fairly phenomenal really when you think about it. Just because I put my mind to it.
That's almost €20k. I could go out today and pay for a car with cash because I've been very frugal this past 12 months.
And if I'd never stumbled upon MSE I'd never have even thought about it. I never hear anybody talking about overpaying there mortgage here. And strangely I would feel funny mentioning it to anyone.
I discovered budgeting here. Not just small time budgeting but genuine 12 month look ahead budgets.
I discovered NSD's and that every penny (or cent in my case) is a prisoner. It is going to change my future and it will definitely improve my children's future.

Still pretty much bedridden although I can mooch about the house. I made a purchase yesterday. A new slow cooker.
It's the Morphy Richards Sear and Slow Cook. It's so fab.
My old slow cooker still works but after 7 years it's handles had fallen off and I'm not sure it was really getting up to temperature. I'll not be throwing it out however. In fact I used it today to make rice. :j
The Sear and Slow Cook version allowed me to brown my beef and onions before adding stock and veg for my casserole. DD and I just had some and OMG it's defo a bit better than when I chuck everything in raw. It was €35 and well worth it. It's only 3.5L though which is smaller then I'm used to but still loads for the 3 of us.
I'm a long time slow cooker convert!!
No other spends. We had dinner in my parents yesterday and I felt really rotten after being upright for so long so it was a very quiet afternoon.
Still waiting for my funds to be released from my 40 day notice "OP" account. Only another 5 days left til I can send off the cheque.MFW Target Jan 2016 Sub €100k

Ah sorry to hear about the pains, pregnancy illnesses suck.
Well done on the 20k overpayment, that is some going.
I agree that OP's in ROI are a non topic. I guess arrears are so common and so many people struggling that its just not the done thing to talk about it. I know one other person op'ing, but her mortgage was so eyewateringly large, I would not sleep with it.
Good luck with breastfeeding. I planned 6 weeks and ended up 12 months, the first 6-12 weeks are the very hardest. Remember the growth spurt comes at 6 weeks which is why many people give up, but if you get through that you are flying. Though I must admin cloth nappies were fab and I sold them on when finished and more or less made by money back. Modern ones are very easy and really little work. Also think about other savings. You don't need the fancy pram, a baby carrier is a much better investment (as long as its ergonomic and decent).
I look forward to following your diaryOriginal MF date: Feb 33 Target : MF date: Dec 20 Cleared mortgage August 2015

Gaffel - thank you for the response and encouragement. I hear what you're saying about reuseable nappies. I've even seen them for sale second hand. Aldi have started packs at the moment. It's just I really don't know what the process is. I hear about inserts etc. I'm allowing ignorance to cloud my decision making. I'm sure there are online tutorials on YouTube but when you go to search it there is sooooooooo much information it's overwhelming.
Are you on this side of the pond too?
Nothing to report of an MFW nature. Am back at work albeit from the comfort of my bed. Still I'm very busy catching up. Tis good to forget my pregnancy woes for a while.
My 6 year old is lying beside me listening to "I'm a gummy bear" over and over again. If you've not had the pleasure . . . well I'm jealous of you all as I'm sure years are being removed from my life expectancy with it :rotfl:MFW Target Jan 2016 Sub €100k

Yes on this side of the pond, moved here 13 years ago (Irish parents but raised in UK).
The ones in Aldi atm are not great, I would avoid. Best brand I can recommend are those with initials BG (and they are very clever), they have an all in one type so no inserts and super handy. You just throw them in the wash instead of rubbish bin. (You buy wet bags, store dirty ones in it then throw into machine all at once) so very little to them really. And you just kind of get used to them. Also if you pay by weight for your rubbish that is an additional saving with cloth. :j
Not had the pleasure of that one, but with 4 kids I have had similar tortures. :eek:Original MF date: Feb 33 Target : MF date: Dec 20 Cleared mortgage August 2015

Thanks Gaffel. I cheked those out and have found a nappy lending library (who knew!!) So I can borrow for 6 weeks and see how I get on. Cost is €45 including delivery to my house and back to their depot on return. I think it might be worth it to give it a go:)MFW Target Jan 2016 Sub €100k

So had a spend today of €6.34 on a top up shop. I NEVER top up shop as I'm usually in work but because I'm off I replaced a few things earlier in the week. As OH is now working locally I'm really feeling it in the food budget having him here for breakfast and dinner 7 days per week.
Although I did use up 2 shoulder lamb chops that the buthcher gave my OH for free. I did them in slow cooker with brown lentils, onions and lots of cumin and coriander. I then shredded the meat and we had the lentil/lamb on wraps with salad and rice. It was yummy and clean plates all round.
A few new diaries on here in past few days so glad i'm not the only newbie starting off.MFW Target Jan 2016 Sub €100k

Those lamb shoulders sound lush! and that is fairly small top up shop in fairness.
Glad you found some help on the nappies, and that trial sounds like a no lose situation. Will look forward to hear how you get on!
yep, I like seeing all the new diaries, is it an element of nosiness?Original MF date: Feb 33 Target : MF date: Dec 20 Cleared mortgage August 2015
