My go live date was yesterday, my phone and internet are up and running no problems....however, I can not access the site given to set up a wep key.

I called the call centre (got through straight away - hartlepool type accent I think, so not India) and the guy was as helpful as he could be. He tried all sorts.

However, finally admitted he wasn't sure. He suggested that I don't need a wep key because the router has an inbuilt firewall. However, I know that these can be hacked and to truely protect yourself a wep key is necessary.

So he passed on a number to the Geek squad, who want £25 to take over my computer to sort it out. I should point it out that I have known a few dodgy characters who have worked at these type of places and like to mess around and thus am not happy for this to take place. Plus I begrudge paying £25 just for them to press a few keys on their keyboard and walla!!

I've always been able to set up the wep key in the past with other providers so can't understand what the problem is.

Also it would seem I can't access hotmail, which is most inconveniant. And again I have no idea why.

I am on a Mac PowerBook G4 (10.3.9). Any help or advise would be appreciated because currently I am using a neighbours internet as I refuse to use an unsecured wireless access.

If you cannot access the routers set-up page (it is not a website) the problem is with your computers (MAC) Ethernet settings.

You will need help from a MAC head regarding your problem talking to the router but this is not anything to do with TalkTalk, so you must sort this out for yourself.

Regarding the WEP key, you should not use WEP as it can be hacked in minutes. Use WPA-PSK with a long random key from here to make your network secure.

They gave me a set up page for the router to get it to connect to the internet which worked fine. But the one for setting up security just won't work.

Hmmm....thanks for the advice I will go on to the Apple forum and see if anyone can help from there!

The router may not be compatable with the browser that you are using on your MAC - can't help you with MAC's. Often javascript needs to be enabled to use router set-up pages.
