Save money by speaking text!

  • I don't like txt spk either, I use it occas to shorten texts a little but whole strings of it just make the sender sound like some kind of half-wit moron (just my opinion, i don't care what txt-spk devotees think). It's just about forgivable in a text message as each one costs money, but I don't get people who use it online, it's just lazyness IMO.

  • You could of course not bother to text at all and save money that way.

Speaking as a non-texter and in fact a reluctant mobile phone user (I have to remember to make a call every so often so that my pay as you go credit isn't lost) it does seem to be an extension of the teenage "long silence and yeah" phone conversations. But then I'm a grumpy old woman who was born over 50 years ago in the Dark Ages before technology took over our lives.
  • To be honest, I'd rather spend an extra 8p (or whatever) on an extra text than write in text speak.
  • I loled

Am I the only person who uses the correct punctuation in a test message? It doesn't take much time to press the punctuation key and press the correct symbol. Messages without punctuation can lead to confusion (just ask Lynne Truss!)
Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....
  • I have to agree, txt speak is silly. A phone call is cheaper if you pay 10p a txt for 160 characters that is about 20 or so words, no more than 40. You can get that many into a 20 second conversation easily, if what you have to say is over 1 txt long then you'll save money by sending an MMS which can be up to 1,000 characters for a fixed price which is normally 20p. On my current contract I get SMS for about 1.5p and MMS for about 3p (T-Mobile Flext).

I don't text from my mobile phone, I do it free on my computer.
