Last day at work friday - wanna take HM food in...

Options
I've got to feed to some extent about 30 people maybe a little more...
So far my plans include:

-Quiche - 2, 1 veggie, 1 ham and mush
-Potato salad with chives and onion
-sandwiches - mix of cheese, salami and ham I think - bulky but cheap...
-Home made apple pie
-Danish oatballs (they love them)
-Lemon drizzle cake
-Ginger cake

Any other cheap-ish ideas? I don't wanna do crisps and the usual suspects - these guys have worked for me for or with me for 3 1/2 years... But as I am potentially unemployed for a while I also don't wanna spend a fortune...

  • Why not make a batch of scones - maybe cheese, plain (take some jam/marge to spread) or fruit. They are cheap, easy and quick to make, especially if you make them smallish
  • A couple of ideas:

HM pasta salad - I tend to do a tomato based one
HM couscous salad - you can use plain couscous for this and add your own spices and bits and pieces - I tend to use Sainsburys Harissa couscous and add a glug of olive oil, black olives and chopped up cherry tomatoes.

Could add pasta salad and coucous yes... Great ideas thanks! I had focussed my mind on "I have a salad" but there is nothign stopping me from having more! AND I just so happen to have some cherry tomato's from the market on sunday that I could use!

Scones could be trickier, never made them, and limited oven space which will probably be taken up with quiches and cakes at the moment... but might have a crack at them just to try :)

  • A couple of years ago I was asked at work to cater for someone's leaving do, and given £50 to do so.

This is what I did for 30 people:

    HM sausage rolls
    Veggie samosas
    Spring rolls
    Cheese board (brie/cheddar/stilton/garlic and herb)
Large olives on sticks wrapped in salami
    Gruyere+cherry tomatoes+olives on sticks
    Pork pie wedges
    Sausages wrapped in bacon
    HM Chicken bites
    Pate
    HM guacamole with tortilla chips
    Chicken satay
    Celery/cucumber sticks/carrot sticks
    Sausages wrapped in bacon

    Cookies
    Grapes/oranges

    6 bottles of Cava
    Orange juice
    Coke
    Lemonade

And I got change from the £50 (although I am sure there are some who could do it even cheaper, I only had Sainsburys at my disposal at the time :D)
