Compensation for fitting costs of faulty decking

Having purchased composite decking from a well known DIY store in September last year and having it professionally fitted, (by a local tradesman) the decking is now cracking after less than 9 months. I am awaiting an inspection from the manufacturers and have asked the DIY store to repace the deck. (Their reviews are now showing quite a number of other customers with this product in the same boat as me) Am I entitled to ask for the fitting costs of the replacement deck? I feel that with a product with a 25 year warranty that is breaking up, I should not have to pay to have it taken up and re laid.

It depends on whether the decking is defective or the installation of it isn't right.

If the product is faulty, and you may need to prove that, then the seller must provide a remedy and cover all the cost in doing so.

If the installation is faulty such that the decking was damaged during installation, or because it was installed wrongly, then of course the installer needs to put things right at his cost.

And bear in mind ... if you try to invoke the warranty, then the T&Cs of the warranty apply. If these exclude any claim for dismantling and refitting then you can't claim them.

That's why wealdroam mentions "If the product is faulty, and you may need to prove that", as this would be using SOGA for a resolution rather than their warranty.
