I would like to cancel BT and use a cheaper internet provider. Would my Youview box still work?

Yes, but you won't get any BT-specific on-demand services. All the Freeview channnels received via your aerial will still be available.
If you are still in minimum term then you may be asked to return the box though. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for your comments.
Just to clarify: Would I be able to search using EPG and play e.g. BBC1 programs?

The box's functionality as a stand alone humax youview recorder won't be affected.
But are you sure you can keep it if you terminate within your contract period?0
