Halifax basic account?

Does anyone know if Halifax will let me have a basic account if i had a default on a current account 4 years ago with them?

I also went bankrupt 3 years ago but was discharged 2 years ago.

Would i need to take in proof of discharge?

Bearing in mind i only want a basic account and not a current account.

I'd have thought it would make more sense to go to another bank rather than one you defaulted on - Barclays and Co-op are recommended at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts

What makes you think that they won't credit check you? Nearly all banks these days credit check applications for accounts, even basic accounts.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

We can still open an account for you if you have a poor credit history. But, if your credit reference agency file shows that you have a history of fraud or are an undischarged bankrupt we won’t be able to accept your application.

    You'll probably get the account.

Do you still owe Halifax money? I think there's technically the right to set off between Halifax and Bank of Scotland accounts.

When you have debt's against a bank then then they will often refuse further products even when they have written off or can't collect the debt.

Halifax IS Bank of Scotland BTW

I even applied for a tsb basic cash account and my application was declined!! Not sure why? They're not related to any other banks are they? I have a bad credit rating but i have been a discharged bankrupt for over 2 years now so it shouldnt affect me..

They will only dissapear off your credit files - nothing stopping anybody holding internal information for their own use after this time.
Why waste time with a bank that you have defaulted on?
Look at it this way, you lend a mate £500 - he doesn't pay you back - would you then lend him more money 5 years down the line?
