Spam texts...wrong info from MSE

I've been getting these spam premium texts from beflirty for past 3 months costing £3 a week. I always take the majority of advice about stuff from this website & the main bit of MSE advice was never to text 'STOP' to the number as this will simply render me a sitting duck for more unscrupulous and costly texts. I did the payphone plus & forward the spam onto 7726, I then went through VM my supplier in an attempt they could stop them...they couldn't but told me to text 'stop' to the number they provided. I told them NO the advice was never text 'stop' to this as they will bombard me with more premium texts, so I left it, meanwhile more £3 texts were coming through which has cost me over £36 over the past few months! I went on to VM and pleaded with them to stop & they again told me the same info Martin Lewis says you should never do which is text 'STOP' to the number. Well after a few assurances from VM about recompense if their text 'stop' advice was duff, I did it & low & behold it worked....no more texts! So by taking info from the site has cost me £36, I know this advice could work in some instances but for me it was totally duff, perhaps update your advice & don't let anyone else get stung!!!

The MSE website advice is directly contrary to what you say it is.

Not only does the title of the section dealing with messages from premium numbers state "Premium rate messages: Text 'STOP'" in massive writing, the first sentence under "How to stop them" states:Here you should reply STOP or STOP ALL, in order to block future messages from that company.
You're the one that confused the advice for spam texts with the advice for premium messages, despite the page (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/stop-spam-texts) clearly showing how to differentiate between the two, don't blame the site for that.0 -

Nope once a message is delivered that is all that is required by a SMS sender to verify it as a live number and texting back STOP does work with reputable Companies, The dodgy ones would not give a hoot by the word stop as it will be received and not even looked at as they only look at the positive responses to sell on.
Basically with marketing your number is bought and sold every single day from store cards to insurance and various large shopping websites, My advice enter a number like the mobile code ie:- 07770 followed by 000 000 on everything you use.0 -
If it is a message from a mobile shortcode you must send STOP to stop further text messages arriving. If you block the number you won't see the texts but you will still be charged.
If it is a text message sent from an ordinary looking 07 mobile number, sending the stop message in return has no effect and only serves to identify that your number is live.0 -

No again this is utter rubbish I work in the marketing of payday and as I said when a message is delivered to a phone number that is sufficient evidence of a live number, Again certain Companies that you text stop to will remove your details not all but the reputable ones anyway.0
