Hiya! Great thread, I'm planning on have a look round some local car boots now.

I'd like to get some bits and bobs to sell on ebay, maybe start a shop on there. What kind of stuff should I look for? What sells best on ebay that I could pick up at boot sales?

    thanks!

I'm afraid that is a question that none of us can really answer, you need to do your research. Spend time looking at completed listings on ebay, watch prices and trends and get a feel for the prices on items being sold at your local car boots.

Remember though that you need to register with HMRC as a trader, and pay any approrpiate tax and NI on your trade. You also need a very high mark up once you take into account ebay and paypal fees and the very expensive postage .

You'll also find that many of us selling at car boots know exactly what our items are worth on ebay, and thats why we sell at car boots. I know people buy from me thinking they can turn a profit, but I've already done my calculations and in most cases the cost of postage makes ebay unrealsitic for certain items.

Doing my first carboot next month a) to declutter before moving house and b) to make a few quid to put towards bits that need doing in the new house.

Just read the thread from beginning to end and now feeling less anxious thanks to everyone's advice and experiences.

Was wondering if anyone has sold (or has seen sold) old/retro football shirts. I have a big bag full but unsure how much to sell them for or if they would even sell at all!

Hiya mooby, my advice to you would be ebay! there are some things which if they go for pence on a car boot you just regret it, i sold a tottenham shirt which was about 6 years old on ebay and got £36 for it, had i put it on a car boot it would have been a few bob.
I do both ebay and car boots regularly, if i think something is worth some money i will always try ebay first, if no interest and then i just want rid then ill take it to car boot.

At the c/b near me the main things i have seen go are,
    :kids toys
    :kids clothes
    :womens clothes
    :tools and gardening equipment.

I always make sure i have a wide range of things on my style, electrical items and tools first which makes the men stop, which then makes the women have a look at other things knowing their hubbies wont be telling them to " come on " ;)

It depends on your cat boot. About half of my local ones say 'no traders or no new goods' and the other half don't care at all

Nothing annoys me more than a car-booter who tells me an item they are selling is 'brand new'. It's clearly not brand new, you're selling it at a car boot.

I don't think selling something at a car boot means it can't be brand new. I have sold things that for some reason or another is still new with tagged-

I have also sold business stock there , all of which is brand new and tagged and the car boot I go to has several traders with new stock

Yes, but you'll pick up an unboxed, grubby item and still be told it's brand new.
