Car boot sale advice - updated 2013

I think this is the main challenge with a car boot sale site.
What I am trying to do in 2010 is to try to include a link for each organisers own website or contact details.
This way people can contact the organisers direct to check on the dates and times are correct.
Unfortunately some organisers dont supply these details.

Hi, Did my first ever carboot sale yesterday and made £100
I was so impressed! It was great fun too! Had some funny moments! Like a woman wanting a brandnew lipstick (from my 10p box) trying to give me 5p because she said she had no change - holding out her hand - with 2 20 pences in :rotfl:I said 'no you give me 20p - I have 10p change for you' :rotfl:and my hubby thought I was mad not taking every price given to us and being quite hard to haggle with (he didn't know I had it in me) but I always ended up getting the price I wanted for it - and everything people took an interest in went. We didn't end up bringing much home. Apart from videos - we couldn't get rid of them whatever we tried. And we had some best selling books and we had a job to shift them. I was shocked at that.
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to this thread for preparing us for the boot sale and knowing what to expect and especially the list of prices to use. We had a great time! I will save up my old stuff now like I have the past year and will probably do one each summer.SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -

Did a car-boot last Sunday and totally agree with the problem of theft. Some woman tried putting two framed pictures in her trolley in front of me and my partner and then sidle off!
Another problem was with the clothes rail, even though it was just to the right of where I was standing. I was taking all 'sold' items off their coat hanger and putting the hanger in a bag in the back of the van, so technically, should have been no empty hangers on the rail... must have found 6 or 7 empty hangers off the rail during the course of the day...That's only £3 ish but all adds up.

Im going to be doing a car boot at Chelford , Cheshire on Sunday as ive not done one since last year , and I have tons left to take ...and best of all loads to shop for
I was just wondering if anyone has visited the Chelford one recently ? if so was there many buyers // sellers there as im travelling a fair way to get there ??
Also just to remind people that the clocks go forward on Sunday so beware car booters !!!!
So instead of setting off at 5am ...it will really be 4am ...no point in going to bed ...shades will be needed to cover my shopping bags under my eyes :rotfl:Ebay Bag A Day Challenge 2012- :staradmin

I've Googled the above reference and found myself here:

Someone appears to have put in an effort to get the facts for the start of the season.
You might have to do a sat nav or internet search to find some of these places but they all look like they are within 20 minutes of the M25 - especially early on a weekend morning! (Otherwise you could spend 20 minutes getting from one junction to the next!)
I have practical experience of Hook Road Arena & Apps Court; my comments are here:

(I think many boot sales advertise a start time of 07:30 to try to avoid hassle from the local authority - itself under pressure from those who want to "keep Sunday special" and those who don't want to be woken up after a heavy Saturday night.
A little bit of hypocrisy, when the real start time could be 06:00;))0 -
My mum and I did our first car boot yesterday. We only made just short of £40 but the guy next to us said he and his wife do that car boot every week and it was very slow yesterday 'cause of the weather. It wasn't raining but there was a bitterly cold wind. He said usually you'd get like 3 times the number of people buying. Ah well
But I really enjoyed it! Apart from the cold. So we're going to do another one at the end of April when I'm hoping it'll be warmer. We brought back quite a bit of stuff so we're storing it in the loft for the time being.
It was an interesting experience none-the-less0 -

I'm thinking about doing a Car Boot sale tomorrow, used to do loads with my Mum as a teen but haven't done any in the area I live in now. What do people think about doing a car boot on Good Friday? I'm not sure how many people would think of friday as a car boot sale day, although it has definitely been advertised in the local papers. It is near Northolt/Ruislip.0
