Someone has made a mistake, pay the money and be done with it. Otherwise you jeopardising you friendship.

If you're not worried about that then letter before action.

Your poor friend caught in the middle of this! Is the difference between what you would tolerate paying for the convenience and £80 worth more than your friendship? For instance you wanted to pay £40, if it had been £50, or £55 would you have accepted? If so, think about the £25/30 as being what you're going to pay to keep the friendship. It won't make things nice in the shop for her if the manager starts talking of withholding bonuses otherwise.

£30 - that's not even a night out in London, it's barely a night it! It may be cheaper round your way, but swallow it with good grace for the sake of friendship. Sometimes being 'right' is less important than getting on with life.

Sounds like their job sheets are out of kilter - the customer should sign for working to be done.
LBA, and even if they give you watch back ask for 10% extra for time wasted and loss of amenity (you have lost the pleasure of that watch)
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

    It's about time...

Seriously though, OP. If they don't have a SIGNED agreement from you to go ahead with the work, I can't see that they are able to force payment from you. It does make your friend look bad, but whoever ultimately authorised the work to go ahead ought to be the one getting this sorted, one way or the other. One way of looking at it, I suppose, is that you've had £120-worth of work done for £80... Not much comfort there though. Good luck.
