Its easy to be fussy over food, and worry about poor defenseless animals, when you can trot of to the supermarket or the local 'organic ethical shop'. And make sure you have a full belly whenever you wish.
Would all the 'fussy do gooders' be as fussy if they were part of the starving millions?
Do I eat this rat, or starve?
I'll starve because its a poor defenseless rat.Quotes in context only please.0 -

And so much land is no good for growing crops!
Spot on ! As I pointed out in another thread there is much land which will only support rough vegetation that humans cannot eat, but goats and cattle can, so the only way to survive is to raise then eat the animals.
Or pop down to the nearest branch of Julian Graves and stock up on Pumpkin seeds !0 -
You obviously have never lived or been to the Falklands, Orkney, or Shetland, or is that not in the UK/Great Britian?
Are these representative of normal UK life then? I didn't realise the people in the Shetlands all had to wear fur, must be a strange sight :rotfl:
I know a vegan from Orkney so it's obviously a viable lifestyle there too.
Are you seriously saying that people from these places have to wear fur to survive? I'd like an honest answer to this.Soy is not just grown for animal feed, it is also grown and imported for human consumption.
Vegans usually buy soy which has been grown from sustainable sources.
What has organic vegetable growing got to do with fur anyhow?
They're not always by-products of the meat industry either. Quite a lot of leather is from cows raised in India. Because they can't be slaughtered there they are walked to bordering countries, by the time they've gotten there quite a lot of their face has been ripped off by the rings in their nose tearing it. The skin is loosened by throwing the animal in a vat of boiling water, often the animal is not dead when this happens.Fur and leather are not by-products of the oil industry, rabbits are a menace and not native to these shores, skins can be tanned without chemicals, all you need is wee and oak bark.
If you don't care about animals why bother coming onto this thread? A couple of you were defensive in your first posts even though no one had attacked you.
Do you behave like that with everyone who thinks differently than you?
Has anyone suggested that everyone should become vegan?
Do you honestly not know that lots of omnivores oppose fur as a fashion accessory too?The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -

It would be a dull with a thread of 'I agree, I agree'
Do you behave like that with everyone who thinks differently than you?
Yes, sometimes I roll my eyes at people who walk around barefoot
Has anyone suggested that everyone should become vegan?
Yes, They do it all the time imo, they try and make you feel guilty if you like the taste of sweet sweet meat. And love duvets stuffed with real down
Do you honestly not know that lots of omnivores oppose fur as a fashion accessory too?
No, I once saw a Black Bear and a Fly protesting outside a London Fashion House. I did honest, I remember thinking, who do them omnivores think they are...

I do care about animals, just because I shoot rabbits, eat their meat and wear their fur does not mean I don't. I respect the animals so when I eat their meat or sking them I use as much of the animal is possible. It's part of my nasty meat-eating heathen beliefs!
Not all pagans are vegans or veggies you know.
As for Orkney, Falkland and Shetlands, actually I have been to Orkney and Shetland and I have friends living on the Falklands. Fur (real fur) is still worn in parts of Orkney(I don't mean mainland Orkney either where they have a supermarket, I'm talking Eday and Sanday) and Shetland as it is hard-wearing and warm. When you think fur, do you just think sable, bear and mink or do you even consider sheepskin? It is after all sheeps fur!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Don't be daft. Sheep aren't cute.
What are you suggesting? That we send a bunch of animal rights nutters round to John Motson's house?
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I hope not, my mate on Orkney has a business producing sheepskin/cowskin and other animal skin items. Mind you she also has a rather large collection of crossbows and archery bows kept specially for animal rights nutters and the like. (she hasn't shot anyone yet, but she did do severe damage to car's chassis)The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Strangely enough I wear fur to keep warm, not to show off. I don't know anyone who wears it to show off.
I love the way that people always assume that fur is worn only as a fashion accessory!
As the sea levels rise and the gulf stream shifts then fur is going to become more essential to keep warm as the UK cools down. Most Eco-facists seem to think that no one should use central heating or coal and would rather hug a tree than cut it down to burn etc so people will have to keep warm some how!
(for those that don't know, Global warming + Ice caps melting = sea levels rising and gulf stream shifting = colder temperatures for Northern Europe. Increased flooding, more rain and the return of extreme winters)The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

For the majority of people in the western world there are other fabrics that can be used to keep warm, so I suspect that you have a choice as to what you can wear, even if you are poor by UK standards.
If I really genuinely needed it for survival then I'd kill animals (just as they would kill me) but if I had a choice then I would choose not to kill them to keep warm if I had a viable alternative.
Are you really telling us that you have no alternative to fur to keep warm?
If you really genuinely don't and have no alternative for your survival then I think that's fine, but somehow I doubt that if you have access to the internet that you are living hand to mouth with nature.0
