GIBB A, your £30 payment

On the off chance that "GIBB A" is reading this, and is wondering where the £30 payment they made today has gone: It's arrived in one of my accounts.

I'll be happy to help your bank to recover the money. I will of course require proof of the transaction before I can reveal more. Please PM me with the proof.

Might not be from Gibb A, that might just be the description the sender used when making the payment.0

In this case you don't need any proof from the sender.Archi_Bald wrote: »I'll be happy to help your bank to recover the money.I will of course require proof of the transaction before I can reveal more. Please PM me with the proof.0 -
Going by hundreds of other payments I received over the years, it is definitely the name of the sending account, and it's definitely an account at a different bank although I cannot see the name of the bank.Might not be from Gibb A, that might just be the description the sender used when making the payment. In this case you don't need any proof from the sender.
I am trying to be helpful here by speeding up any request for recovery because we have heard so many times that it is difficult/impossible to get mis-directed payments reversed. But obviously I will not provide any further information on here to anyone other than the person who made the payment. Also for obvious reasons, I will not pay the money myself to whoever made the payment, should they contact me. And I have written to my bank to ask them to return the money to the originator.0 -
I can't fathom why it takes so long for banks to return the funds. They know the remitter's name, account number and sort code. You don't want it so it should be straightforward to send it back.
This payment is only £30 and probably won't cause too much grief but it could quite easily be £30,000. You'd like to think that the remitter would take more care with a larger amount but they do go wrong.0 -
I can receive payments to my account with various descriptions. For instance people send me money for outings i organise with the description " hen weekend" or "Races trip" unless they include their name, i have no idea who it's from ! My son frequently sends me money with just the description "thanks Mum"

Different banks obviously present data in different ways. Rest assured, the payment I received was from an account named "Gibb A".
Anyway, nobody has contacted me to claim the money but my bank has confirmed they "can see the payment wasn't intended for me" (I wonder how?) and that they will return the payment to the originator.
Very strangely, they also said it would take 5 days for the money to be removed from my account. So either they are following some archaic process, or they are investigating some untoward happenings.0 -

It's simply. The beneficiary name doesn't match yours. They can't realistically check that this matches automatically so don't bother.
Why they can't just send it back immediately is beyond me, though. They should at least debit your account as soon as you've alerted them.0 -

As Archi Bald says, different banks must do it different ways. My banks, -First Direct, Lloyds, TSB and Halifax, always show the name of the person sending the money. If they've added a reference/description, that shows as well.0 -
That's a screenshot from Nationwide's online banking.
Nationwide show the sender of the payment, but not the reference.
So, that payment is definitely FROM "Gibb A".0 -
GIBB A, you have paid another £20 into my Nationwide account yesterday. As before, I have asked Nationwide to remove this money from my account. If you happen to read this, please update your records. You don't owe me any money, and I don't want any from you.0
