My hi-fi is not fully functional, when you turn to the internet radio function, it just says- not available, to me that's not a fully functional unit.
Your hi-fi is fully functional because it is telling you "hey there i cannot pick anything up, there's nothing available just yet"
truth is your just miffed and looking for away to get ya money back, ask sony they may give you a few quid for it.0 -

No all I want is what I paid for, nothing wrong in that surely.0 -
So we do live in a throwaway society.
In a word yes, years ago things were built to last and had quality but today {for many reasons} it is the case of in a few months the item will be replaced by a better model and it seems to me people then dump the "old" one to get the "latest all singing/dancing one".
To me it is the wrong attitude but it seems to be the norm and manufactures see this and build to cover this.0 -

You HAVE got what you paid for. The fact that a third party dispute is not delivering what your hi-fi is capable of receiving does not mean it is broken, or that it is Sonys fault. The service may resume once Sony and Vtuner sort out their differences.
Look at it this way. Say all the TV people went on strike so that no TV programs could be broadcast. Would you go running to Sony, demanding a refund on your TV set?0 -
Surely it would come down to being able to prove that the retailer KNEW that there was an "altercation" between Sony and VTuner, and thus there was likely to be a sporadic service?
i.e. they would then be selling something not fit for purpose of what you had requested.
When did the problems start between Sony and VTuner? Was this before you purchased? A good retailer would know these things...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The problem between Sony and Vtuner started around five months after purchase.0 -
I only done a quick check into vturner so I might be wrong but from what I read, its more like freeview than an app like netflix. In that the manufacturers install vturner hardware into the devices.
If a tv was sold as having freeview built in but the tuner didnt work, I'd say thats not fit for purpose/not of satisfactory quality and a remedy would be due.
Its one thing if a third party app doesnt work - its an entirely different matter if its being sold as including a feature and that feature doesnt work. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

You cannot be serious (fits in with the start of Wimbledon) I have not got got I paid for. I spent £400 to listen to internet radio. I'm still listening to the stations I had on my old hifi because the internet feature does not work, minus £400.
If the problem is Vtuner or Sony is not my concern. My concern is that I paid £400 on a unit that should access internet stations, but it do not. If it is a third party problem is not my concern, It's Sony's concern. My concern is that I'm not getting what I paid for, which then becomes my retailers concern whatever the problem is.
I will await my retailers call and will still go ahead with the small claims court if not resolved. My opinion is, I wanted a radio with internet access and after paying £400, not getting it. Why should I have to throw away this unit and purchase another manufacturers unit to get what I want after less than a year.
Also I would not go running to Sony if my tv Did not work because of a tv strike, because 1) I have a Panasonic TV and 2) I would go to the tv licensing for paying for something I'm not getting (sounds familiar)0 -

But here, as Sony are party to the dispute and also the manufacturer, it is more of a 2nd party dispute, muddied slightly by OP's contract being with a retailer. I would say Sony have some responsibilities to consumers here.0 -

Fine, you plough on then.
If it was me, I would put the money you are about to waste into buying a stand-alone internet radio. Let us know how you get on at court.0
