The JCW stuff is a a thin rubber sheet overlayed with fancy plasterboard which has loads of layers of foam and more rubber layers, all sealed with "acoustic" tape and sealant and plastered over.

It's not perfect, but really is very good. I think the remaining 5% noise travels across our lofts.

For the record, there's a company called "Tom Smith" (check out You Tube) who guarantee complete soundproofing, but quoted me £20k.

it was a genuine question not aimed at getting your backup.

I just wonder, if the noise was so bad 2 people moved, did you not realise you were loud?

I guess I did, but, seriously, I thought people would speak to me (us) if it was a concern. I'm not proud of the fact two neighbours moved so quickly and the third one finally made it obvious why. On reflecting I have some friends who look a bit rough and we used to have them there a lot, maybe they though I was some kind of thug. So wrong. Anyway, it is more than 20 years ago now, time flies.

That's my thinking, if someone is making loud noise, they know they are doing it so why would they stop it...that's the thought process, I guess some like you just need it mentioning.

I'm impressed with your results, we had no access to some of the materials that must be available now. We did use acoustic tape though, I remember that now. I think we wrong footed with the resonance bars to stop vibrations, awkward things to deal with.

Very awkward. I sent them back when I realised our builder would have difficulty fitting them properly.

Overall he's done a good job and we're happy with opur new walls, but fitting special acoustic solutions is something best done by someone who has a full understanding of the principles through which they work.
