did you really think no one could hear you or had a problem?

imo must noise that warrants a complaint the people know they are loud.

I would have thought if they had a problem they'd speak it. I would. Wouldn't you?

I wouldn't make the noise in the first place, if 2 sets of people moved because of the noise you were making surely you didn't need to be asked to keep it down.

Re musical instruments, I've seen someone playing bagpipes in the middle of the park and someone else playing sax under a road bridge, so there are alternative rehearsal spaces available!

Re hearing the neighbours - my 1990's place is hopeless (and yet it was better than most when house-hunting) - you'd think the heffalumps live next door. Stomp stomp stomp stomp & the sound just ricochets around. It's very much a BTL area now (wasn't when I moved here), so people don't care about their neighbours any more.

You might not, but we (mostly me) do; that's the rich tapestry of the human race in action.

And I expect people to talk to me if they have a problem - like one of the neighbours finally did! Like most people, I am reasonable!

I live in a 1950s semi. Didn't realise quite how much the neighbours could be heard whilst undertaking multiple viewings. I did when I moved in. Spent £3.5k having the entire side of the house soundproofed. Lost an inch of space and 95% of noise. Admittedly, I can still hear them slam a door at 3:00am if there is silence and I'm still awake. Best £3.5k I've ever spent.

An inch! That's fantastic if you've had a 95% noise reduction on such a small loss of space. I have soundproofed a house and it lost 3" or 4" for a not too spectacular return on damping the noise. We might have got it badly wrong! But we took expert advice on how to fit it. From your result we must have fitted something really wrong.

I bet you did a false wall and filled it with insulation roll?

I'll be accused of promoting a company, but I used JCW Acoustics. £3.5k for them to fit it, plaster, replace skirting and carpets. In three rooms.

    I think they're a supplier to B&Q and Jewsons.

And in Money Saving terms, a lot cheaper than buying a detached house...

We used resonance bars suspended on batons with suspended insulation blocks sealed with a special tape (can't remember the name) and then boarded it over, so yes I guess it was a false wall. But it was an engineered false wall. I don't understand how the carpets matter? But it's been a few years since we did it and the friend has moved out long ago. I'm glad you've had such a great result! Nothing wrong with plugging a company if they deliver!

it was a genuine question not aimed at getting your backup.

I just wonder, if the noise was so bad 2 people moved, did you not realise you were loud?
