I guess so. I just applied online via the offer link and have to wait 5 working days to hear back.

I was annoyed about 5 working days when you can apply instantly via phone. So I phoned them and the advisor said 5 working days is because my application is conditional and the underwriters will review and make a decision...I think that's bulls**t.

For those who applied online, we will receive a letter about the decision. Nothing else, not even an email.

I keep tell to myself, "think of the £240 offer..."

I've just tried to ring the 0800 326 215 and got 'number is not recognised' recorded BT message.

Just rang HSBC to apply for the account and was told that they had to make an appointment for me at a local branch for me to take my documentation in as I'd not had a previous HSBC account.

I tried to apply online but as I don't have an employer I was unable to fill in the online application form.

The 0800 number is to ring via Skype - you need to ring the 0345 number.

I just opened my Advance account over the phone. It got really awkward with funding:
"how will the money be sent to the account each month?"
    "From my Lloyds account"
"but you'll switch from your Lloyds account so it won't be there"
"but I'll still have another account"

She reckons I wouldn't be eligable for the switch offer but I guess if I switch & close a £10 account it should be fine?

Just put your own name and address, or "not applicable".

The application form is stupid as it makes employer information mandatory, despite accepting applications from retired, unemployed and self-employed people.

She could well be right, you might have spoiled the party for yourself.

Just checking....is there any "refer a friend" incentive with HSBC?

How is that? If I use the switching service and switch then I've still switched? I don't think any T&Cs say you can only have an account with only that 1 bank?
