That was my next question, thanks. Im confident I was doing 35, yes I know I should'nt or slowed down a little.0 -
Hand held speed cameras are extremely accurate. As above, a real 35mph will get you at least a speed awareness course.
Remember that the time that they ping you is likely to be well before you have spotted them, if you spot them, lift off and then look at your speedo you most likely will have been going faster when they clocked you.

Maybe it wasn't a speed gun and he was just checking the speeds, Do the police even do that ?0 -
If it was not a van, they would normally stop the car and issue the driver a Ticket.
As said they have you hundreds of yards away, by the time you see them, they are either in the road ready to stop you or doing the next one.
If its a van set up, they issue by post.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

No van or car was in sight (well it wasn't in view of those driving on along the road), he was stood on the corner of a junction.

AFAIK there are no hand-held speed cameras, simply speed-meters.0

Individual officers aren't bound by the ACPO tolerance guidelines.
To be honest, if someone drove past them 1mph below the recommended tolerance, pulling a troll face expression, I'd expect them to be pulled over.
Driving at or below the speed limit under this circumstance demonstrates good observation and passes the attitude test.0
