Breakdown cover

            Thanks for those replies.
So was it a 'rule' or did I just misunderstand something when I thought after 10 years old it was essentially impossible to transfer breakdown cover to another company? Or have the rules changed?
 Cheers
As far as I am aware, there never were any such "rules". Who would have made and enforced them?
You are free to pay your money to whoever suits you.0

Erm, well when my car turned 10 I tried to switch from RAC and everyone I approached said 'we don't do cover for cars 10 years +' though I'm now wondering if I had some kind of abberation and dreamt the whole thing up!
I will check out AutoAid and the other ones mentioned, after I have given RAC a ring to try to get their quote down if that is possible.

If you go for the cheaper basic policies then they may have the 10 year limit, but with the more expensive packages they dont have that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I had reason to use AutoAid last night whilst I was in my sons car. Recovered from M18 and for the first time wasn't charged, so don't know if they have changed their policy or not but I was well pleased.
His car was a 53 plate Focus so no age limit with AutoAid0

Does anyone know what happens with AutoAid if the cost of recovery e.g. from Scotland back to the South Coast of England, exceeds the market value of the car? Do they still pay out or try and make you get a local repair/scrap the car?0

If you break down at the side of the road and ask to be taken home they will take you home. You cannot be expected to be able to assess cost of repairs without taking the car to a garage for someone to establish what's wrong with it.Does anyone know what happens with AutoAid if the cost of recovery e.g. from Scotland back to the South Coast of England, exceeds the market value of the car? You have paid for a recovery service and that's what it is. The choice of destination is yours.0

Yes what you say makes sense but as it is a (usually) pay first and claim later insurance, I wondered if they might have some get out clause tucked away to exclude recoveries that exceed the value of the vehicle? Once you have paid a huge recovery bill, it would be too late to find that out!0

RAC told me they are more expensive than AutoAid because AutoAid charges you for roadside assistance labour costs. Is this true?
