Maria - I am sorry to hear you've had such a shock. Part of my total came from paying salaries on my credit card so I know what you mean about wishing you'd been splurging to deserve the debt as it were.

Yorkshire - you are right it does sound a complicated situation. Quite a lot of factors still in the air so hard to plan effectively. I'm glad you have a bit of a cushion put by though that must be some comfort.

    Foxgloves - welcome back :)

Determined - so sorry to hear that you lost your mum (and your job.) if it's any help you should be entitled to 6 months worth of contributions-based JSA if your NI contributions are up to date, it's just under £70 per week I think. They are pretty good at paying it, I can even claim if I have a week with no bookings and your husbands earnings aren't taken into account.

I'm back at work this week, I've been pretty good at remembering lunches for work and bought up 4 boxes of YS almond croissants which are all bagged up separately in the freezer for breakfasts.

The little hole we knocked through the already cracked leaded window to get in the other week is now a massive hole since DS knocked more out trying to reach the key rack when he locked himself out (he must think he's Mr Tickle as its in the next room.) I'm having it replaced with plain opaque glass and it's going to cost £145 so that means moving my emergency savings back again this month but, hey, at least I had emergency savings.

My brain is still working overtime working out what I'm going to do re the house/work etc come October. I have seen a very nice and very cheap 1 bed roomed flat in need of a refurb that has a room big enough to move the kitchen into to free up the kitchen to be a second bedroom. Theoretically I could buy it and have £50k left to do the work and also buy the lease of a business I have my eye on but realistically I'm doing this to get away from having to worry about finding the mortgage every month and I'd just be replacing it with worrying about finding the rent for the unit instead. If nothing else posting on this thread and reading Bobs experiences has taught me that it could be just as stressful!

Have a great Friday tomorrow all, nearly the weekend :)
