Can I get just broadband - no phone...

Options
I am moving into a new flat on Wednesday (renting privately).

I will not require a landline phone in my house as I use my mobile phone for everything.

But I will need broadband. Obviously you need a phone line to get BB to work. Are there packages out there where I can get broadband but no phone line. How does this work?

Edit: It's a 6 month lease so I don't want to sign up to any company for 12 month contracts or whatever... or do I have to?

    Hiya,
I have a similar problem. I just wanted to get broadband but my flat can't get cable and I didn't want to pay BT initial connection fee of £120 (it's a new build flat...). I suppose Cable would be an option but I think you have to sign up for more than 6mths etc., although if you know where you're moving to and it can get Cable, then you may be able to transfer subscription to new flat.

Another option is to get a mobile phone monthly plan with T-Mobile 'web-n-walk'. You pay an extra £7.50/mth to get broadband through your mobile, on top of phone contract + you get free phone. Works out just over £30/mth, although I haven't checked download limits etc so don't know if it's any good.

Vodafone also have this option but as far as i can see it's a standalone package and you don't get a free phone or phone contract with it...I may be wrong. I've asked this question but had no replies as yet. You do get a free 3G modem to connect to your computer though.

    Hope this helps

Would you believe it i was going to ask the same question too. Virgin Media currently have £10/month offer on but you have to sign up for 12 months. I will be calling them up soon to enquire if I would be able to take out BB only. Will report back here. 12 months suits me fine for BB only.

Yes of course you can get broadband on a BT line with having to use a phone but if you are expecting it to be cheaper, you are out of luck! You pay for the line regardless of what you use it for and then pay an ISP for their services. Virgin may be a better option for BB only, if you can get it in your location.

There is £10 discount if you sign up online plus £55 cashback if you go through Quidco, bringing the overall cost down to £6.66 per month for the first year (including installation).

i would be interested to know if virginmedia give you the free digital tv service like with phone line only, it doesnt have any of the premium service but it is of a lot higher stream quality than freeview and if you imply you might be gettin some vod services then i cant see why they wouldnt want to give you one makeing it a hell of a deal.
