Account switch question

When switching current accounts should the old account be closed?

Today my account has switched from Halifax to Co-op. The money has moved etc, However, i can still sign into my Halifax account and do things with it.

If you use the official account switch process then yes, the old account is always closed as part of that process. I haven't actually done it myself so I don't know when that happens, but I'd expect it to be soon. I'm not sure what you have been doing with it as it will have a zero balance after the switch.

Yes it has a balance of NIL now but I didn't expect to be able to see it at all or do any account actions. Maybe it will go away tomorrow.

    TSB says:
    a. Switch to TSB using the Current Account Switch Service by the 28 July 2015
    b. Transfer all active credits and debits from your old account and close it
    c. register a minimum of 2 active Direct Debits

Shouldn't the switch service take care of B & C automatically?

It's actually co-op but yes j would expect the account to be closed as part of a switch but it still appears to be open as i can access it.

you will find that your account will disappear from your online banking within 48 hours of it being closed, this is the same for all account closed not just those that have been switched out...

I have switched from one bank to another and could still access my account on online banking but couldnt do any transactions but could still view it, then it disappeared from my online...

it depends on if you have switched to COOP using the switching team then yes it will closed and disappear.....

Your Halifax online banking log-in should stay active even if you have no accounts with them anymore.

I closed my old Halifax current account back in 2008 but was still able to log-in to see my personal details but no accounts to view. Fast forward to January 2015 when I opened my Reward account and it showed up in my original log-in - luckily I remembered the log-in details.

I have just switched to halifax, done 2 days ago, funds moved, and they have not closed my nationwide yet, . When I log into hailfax, I can view an old account I had 28 years ago, nil balance, and all my isas. I've just done it now to see if my transfer fee has gone in. how long before it hits a/c?
