Can I get a 3 simcard free or cheapo?

Before I go and buy one I thought I'd ask!
The reason...
I get very poor reception inside the house (where I work from) so I need to consider changing networks.
However I get a really cheap deal with virgin - £10 for 300text+300minutes.
If I sign up somewhere, I know they have 14day money back guarantees but they are void if you have used the phone or sim....so I cant actually test it to see how good the reception is.
So! Brainwave! I thought I'd get a PAYG sim to test it out!
Any other suggestions gratefully received!!

You can check the coverage for 3 in your area using this site
http://www.three.co.uk/personal/coverage_/coverageChecker.do
Also only pay £10 for the simcard if you get £10 credit with the sim as you buy the simcards off ebay for £1 without credit, I'm unsure if you have to top these up before they are activated but to save you £9 it may be worthwile putting it in your phone and just seeing what sort of signal you get and getting a few people to call you, £1 is a lot better than wasting £10

excellent, thanks jaymarsh! The sims come with nothing on, so i'll get an ebay one to try it.
The trouble with the coverage sites is that round here shows as excellent, but then when i go inside the house it's poop.
I've been told that if 3 have a poor signal, they revert to the orange network...is that right?*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

3 used to be really crap in my area, but this was around 2 years ago, my friend is with them now and he says he has not had any trouble with it, I am unsure if it reverts to orange, but I think the people who originally went on the 3 network when the coverage was so poor have put a lot of people off, I think it is just rural areas now that have the trouble with the signal, I've heard a lot of good comments about them in the past few months and am considering going with them myseld when my contract expires, for a pound its well worth trying it, even if its no good just sell the sim card on ebay, as you wont lose out, it maybe the best pound you have spent as there rates are very good. I am with T-Mobile and must say its poop in my house to but I'm on a direct line to an airport so dont know if that has anything to do with it.0 -
Just ordered one, thanks!!
For about £20, on 3 I can get 500mins, 100texts. It's double what I pay now, but then I'd get a sony w660 which is nicer than my phone:)*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

It is a good deal and its for life and the added bonus is that you dont have to worry about cashback, its been a very popular deal and a lot of people are going for it so it must say something about the coverage these days, if it wasnt any good then not a lot of people would be going for it.0 -

if the deal with 500mins, 100texts, is enough for me, do you think £2.50 extra a month is worth it for the sony phone instead?*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
