Vodafone Issues
Options
Hi all.
The 24 month agreement period for my phone contract ends on 3rd July of this year. Back in May I sent a detailed letter to Vodafone requesting the cancellation of my contract on the agreed date, along with my direct debit and any other financial obligations.
I also requested that they contact me in writing confirming said cancellation. The letter I sent was mailed via Recorded Delivery and signed for on 23rd May 2015.
Fast forward a month and I still haven't heard anything back, so 10 minutes ago I reluctantly engaged their customer service via the live chat. To sum up the conversation, I have basically been told that "Vodafone no longer do letters", so I need to cancel via phone or live chat. The kicker is that I will need to give 30 days notice, so if I were to do this today my contract would end in around a month's time, despite the fact that I wrote to them in May and gave them much more than 30 days notice.
Are they spinning me a tale? Surely if I can prove they've received said letter then they don't have a leg to stand on if I cancel my direct debit?
Thanks in advance,
Nick.

Given that most networks won't allow you to give 30 days' notice (without an ETP) until exactly 30 days prior to cancellation you already have one issue. I always give notice by phone and make a careful note of the time, date and person and double-check the end date applied.
You're not going to get anywhere with Vodafone through the normal channels. See the Vodafone complaints thread on here and contact the WRT as instructed there.0 -

a) Either you or we may end this agreement by giving the other 30 days' notice in writing. Your notice must include your mobile number and your signature or appropriate security details. You must pay the charges during the notice period.... .
b) You may end this agreement by writing to us if:- we don't do something fundamental that we should have done under this agreement...;
- we tell you that there will be an increase in the plan charge (calculated before the addition of VAT or other levy) and you write to us within one month of us telling you about the increase;
- we change this agreement to your material detriment. ....
So, yes, they (typically) are spinning you a tale. Stick to your guns.0 -

An easy option now to avoid giving 30 days notice, is to request a PAC and use it (use a payg sim if you don't want the number) this cancels the contract and they don't require or charge the notice periodIt's not just about the money0 -

Unless by a 'notice period' you mean something different from 30 days since requesting the PAC.
What you say is possibly true for Voda, but only after the minimum term ends, that isn't the case for the OP.0 -
Any proof?
Unless by a 'notice period' you mean something different from 30 days since requesting the PAC.
If you use it before the minimum term you are only liable for the period up to the minimum term.
Hence if the OP uses a PAC he avoids the 30 day noticeIt's not just about the money0 -
Hi Nick,
I've got your email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Kind regards,
