Halifax lost my cash deposit

It's hardly the cashier's fault that after their probably-easy-to-make and easy-to-fix mistake you got given a (brief) runaround to fix the mistake by whoever answered the phone.0 -
It was unfortunate that the error occurred and even more so that you were given the run around when trying to get it corrected - in particular ifOne thing the person on the phone said was "prove it"
then a complaint about customer service would also be in order.
However, mistakes happen and wishing a fine on the cashier seems rather excessive - in addition, had it occurred to you that it is your responsibility to check the receipt (as I'm sure you would a cash withdrawal), before you leave the branch?0 -

If you had a receipt and it was done in the bank then it probably would have been easier to go back into the branch. Over the phone they usually have a different process as they work in a total different environment. Not to mention they wouldn't be able to see the receipt.
It's quite reasonable that they would take longer to resolve this via phonecall and quite poor that you wish pain on someone for what was likely an honest mistake...
This could be a person who would need that £20 to feed their kids but I guess you don't know their circumstances either0 -
This whole thread sounds made up. The account to deposit into is identified by you putting the card into the reader and I refuse to believe that Halifax informed you of any remedial action taken against the cashier as it's nothing to do with you.DEBT FREE!

I don't understand the argument about possibly needing the money to buy food for your children that day....you had £300 in cash! You could've kept some of that, as I presume you need or use cash as much as the next person, and not put it all in the bank.0

Contrary to popular belief, banks are decent employers and they don't operate a climate of fear where employees are terrified to make a mistake.
Actually the cashier will probably suffer greatly from this mistake; a complaint has been filed and found in favour of the customer, this will have direct effect on cashiers performance and thus on any bonus they might receive. Meaning a loss far greater than £20.
Some banks moved over from individual performance rewards to a mixture of branch and individual, so this error could affect the entire branch.
Furthermore, cashiers are generally lowly paid: Halifax cashiers are on about £14-16K so those bonuses mean a great deal as they're not the huge multi-million pound ones but hundreds of pounds.0 -

I worked for the Halifax for 28 years..... clearly things have changed in the last couple of years if one mistake can affect the individual and branch performance so much for the whole year. I can understand it if the employee's performance was continuously below the standard - but as far as we know this was one mistake!

not sure that one mistake will affect the branch performance, cash errors are logged and rectified, so this would be just this an error that has been corrected, mistakes happen and can only assume that the last customer wasnt cleared from the system as you now have to exit profile before serving the next customer, and if the branch you were in is anything like my branch then you would have walked up to the cashier before you were called over, and thus the cashier was unable or didn't have time to exit the profile and thought the one that they were in was yours...
