What's the phrase? Kids in glass houses...
If you're gonna come on here and call someone else's English 'poor' when they are almost certainly speaking it as an additional language, you better make sure you're own typing of the language isn't riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.
I'm assume the OPs first language is English, as otherwise why cast aspersions on others speaking it with an accent or as an additional language, but by reading his post you would not think it.
No one would have said a bean if he hasn't made an issue of the advisors 'poor English'0 -
You voided any warranty you had when you installed a new OS on it.
Software generally doesn't come with any warranty so you can't void something that doesn't exist in the first place and if the drive failure is due to a component malfunction, there is nothing in the Acer warranty documentation that excludes this irrespective of what was done to the original OS.0 -

I know for a fact my typing is not perfect, nor is my autocorrect on my phone.
But I am not on here picking on other peoples language skills when they are speaking English as an additional language. Nor are my grammatical skills as poor as the OP who was casting those aspersions.
But by all means, scour this post to prove your point. I also wrote 'hasn't' instead of 'hadn't'. You missed that one.0 -

Is this consumer rights or a spelling contest?
For god sake someone just offer the OP some assistance!
OP has clearly stated that the optical drive has failed therefore this is a hardware issue. No point in offering OP technical support if the CD drive motor has gone and in anyway the OP probably obliterated any recovery partition when installing the new OS. The only possible way of installing or re-installing another OS with no CD drive would be to create a bootable USB drive, however that's going to need another working computer.
OP the difficult part is that as this is over 6 months old it's up to you to prove that this was an inherent fault with the laptop if you want to get Tesco to do something about it.
Personally I'd let Acer attempt a repair and give them a reasonable amount of time to do so, as proving that this was an inherent fault is usually time consuming and costly since you will have to pay for that initially.0 -

Whilst it's certainly true that Tesco have the right to ask the OP to prove an inherent fault, it's far from certain that they will actually do this especially as they have already agreed to look into the problem and have sent the OP a pre-paid label to enable the laptop to be sent to them.0 -
Not sure why you don't trust Acer. I had an Acer monitor several years ago which failed, I sent it back to Acer who then sent me a replacement.
Even if Acer lost it they would be responsible for replacing it. If you are not storing anything on the HDD then you don't need to worry about data getting in the wrong hands. If you are then I'm sure you are capable of wiping the drive.
Other than telling you to have a little faith I don't know what else to say. Your other option if you don't want to send the laptop to Acer is to go down the Sale of Goods Act route but using the manufacturer's warranty will be easier and probably quicker.
To add I worked for PC World and at one time for what used to be called Tech Guys/PC Service Call - it was very rare for a PC to get lost in transit or at the repair centre.0 -

I think you have to send the computer back to Acer. Get a receipt. If you don't want to do this, you can buy an external CD/DVD rom for about £10 from Argos.
As I am being treat as an idiot regarding my IT skillsYou voided any warranty you had when you installed a new OS on it.
Tesco will only get Acer to pick it up from them instead of you and take twice as long. The reason you wont trust Acer with this is because they probably will deny your warranty claim for good reason, the system has been changed and not for the better.
I mean I get a virus, I am not covered.
you talk in riddles ; wont trust acer coz the CD driver dose not work; end off!!!
changed not for the better; speak for your selfmarliepanda wrote: ».

What a ridiculous thing to say.
It really is quite easy to see why this thread is not going in the direction you would like, isn't it?0
