L&G pet insurance

Please advise!
I'm young and stupid, and have no experience of buying insurance (or of financial matters generally).
I took out pet insurance with Legal and General several months ago, since the MSE weekly email mentioned that they were offering £45 Amazon credit. This (Amazon gift cards) arrived at the weekend, and I cancelled the direct debit from my bank account online (3 payments have been taken for the insurance policy, costing me just under £19 in total). Today I also called L&G to cancel. I was told that the policy defiunitely had been cancelled, but that there was a £30 "administration fee". Apparently this was stated in the Ts&Cs - but I'd not read these (because I'm daft/ have better things to do with my time and had no idea that such a thing was possible, having no experience of buying insurance).
What should I do?
Obviously I want to just ignore this ("admin fee") - but if I simply don't make the payment, do I risk being charged even more eventually. Will L&G take legal action against me?
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated!
Thankyou so much for reading

Yeah it's unlikely you can cancel without some sort of fee as you are breaking your contract... You could ignore it if you don't want a nice clean credit file.

£19 for £45 of Amazon vouchers? Not gonna happen.

I hope the £45 of vouchers for £49 now means you read things properly, despite having so many better things to do with your time.

I hope your pet doesn't need veterinary care - with no pet insurance it'll cost you a sight more than the £30. In your position I'd be trying to persuade the company to reinstate the policy and keep it going!

It seems it was taken out for the Amazon vouchers. Op may not even have a pet! :p

Hmmm... lying to obtain an insurance policy? The charge of £30 could be the least of her worries when it comes to obtaining any future insurance cover.

Are you posting this on multiple boards in the hope of getting a different answer? I've seen this on 3 boards already.

Yes, I have the pet that I described in the policy.
I posted the dilemma on several boards as I was unsure which was the right one for this particular issue, and because it would increase the liklihood of getting some usable information.

But in the terms you signed up to when registering on MSE you agreed not to cross-post...

Oh wait, you don't read terms do you?

Don't think you're going to get much assistance on here OP. You signed up to the contract which, presumably, clearly states the cancellation charge in the Ts & Cs. The fact that you didn't read them is no-one's fault but your own.

At this stage you're down £4. Personally, I'd pay the charge and move on. Not worth scarring your credit score over. You also don't want them to cancel the insurance because you'll probably have to declare this if you ever want to take out insurance again.

FWIW pet insurance is one of the things I wouldn't go without. Relatively inexpensive but if you need to claim on it you'll be so grateful that you have it. Say your pet comes down with a serious illness, costs can get in to the thousands very quickly.

When it comes to things like insurance you should read the small print very carefully, then read it again and again.

I doubt L&G will chase you through the courts of £30. But they may not insure you again and may sell the debt to an aggressive debt collector.

I cancelled both my car insurance and home insurance on different occasions. All cancelled early without being charged after their claim of "admin fee's, early cancellation charges etc. 1 insurer even sent me £100 to keep me happy.

I had a post explaining it in great detail with evidence yet the majority of this forum jamp down my throat, claiming I was talking nonsense (yes, this was even with clear cut evidence in front of them) I found Cognitive dissonance to be a real thing! Insurers are acting deceitfully, but also misusing legislation, and manipulating contractual law
