Discovery Sport has the same mechanicals but a more practical aspect and should be better value.

But won't pull the skin off a rice pudding (compared to the old Disco) :(
  • Now when I look at the prices Audi's (Q3 and 5) are almost £4K cheaper at 4 year old cars.

It seems to be general opinion ( what I have heard anyway) that the Land Rovers hold their value well which may explain why after for years there is a £4k value difference.

You must be kidding!!!!, Range Rover drivers (even of the 'cheap' fake one) exceed even an Audi drivers wildest dreams of being a falace behind the wheel.

It's not supposed to - it's really a Freelander Mark 3 but the Disco name carries more kudos.
I need to think of something new here...

Thank you guys - only saw the post today coming back from work.
If you want a 4x4 buy a Subaru and save a shedload.
I don't necessarily need a 4x4 - I am looking for an SUV. I am a money saver to the core, but there are exceptions to the rule and for me this purchase is the one. I had money for this for more than couple of years now but found reasons not to do it.
But you haven't said why you need this type of car ?
There is no reason other than I like it - and there are other cars on my list. I was just intrigued to see 25% price difference in what are essentially cars in same category.

It is a more of a fashion statement and going after the badge but that is also the reason this car is so popular.
Evoque is more of a fashion car so you don't need a valid reason for wanting one, other than the want (coupled with the ability) to own one.
What is also being forgotten is that simple fact that an Evoque has almost unrivalled retained value.

So a much better MSE choice than many similarly priced cars.

I think this is it - and I hope that continues in future as the Chinese don't stand a chance of shipping their's here. :)

As for practicality - this is suitable for us as the only car for family of three in London.

In my opinion I think you are correct in your philosophy.
In my extended driving career i have driven all sorts, mainly the big Volvo's but more recently the Golf . However 3 years ago I bought a Tiguan ( Q3's elder brother ) and found it ideal for everyday comfortable motoring, it has a presence on the road but is not thug sized, economical , (average 47 with 2.0 TDI ). easy to slide in and out and one of the best cars on the road for holding it's value. The Q3 has a plushier interior and I am changing to one with a petrol engine as my mileage is now a lot less.
I just don't like the styling of the Evoque, wife thinks it looks as if an
    elephant has sat on it.

I do like the styling of this car (over Q3 for example) - everyone's different.

My brother in law works for Land Rover. Has an Evoque as a company car. We were on our way to the Belfry for a golf day when the turbo packed up on the M6.

It had covered a whopping 650 miles to be fair though

    Pathetic

Didn't victoria beckham have a hand in designing the evoque? Even if it isn't true, the fact I now associate the two makes me hate them.

As I recall she did a limited edition interior for the launch versions.

But yes - that says a lot about the target market doesn't it?
I need to think of something new here...
