Evoque v Q3/5

After delaying much I am looking to buy a nice car that I always wanted. I really like LR Evoque but Q3 is also on the list. I am looking to buy used preferably from a dealer/certified.

Now when I look at the prices Audi's (Q3 and 5) are almost £4K cheaper at 4 year old cars. Now these are considered comparable cars and belong to same category - both good brands. Is there any reason for such (20%) premium on LR Evoque?

Fashion, mostly, I think. The Evoque is a looker and seems to be the SUV of choice at the moment, in this fashion-conscious segment. Hence higher used prices.

The odd time I see an Evoque my first reaction is 'how much!'.

I was at a car show at the weekend, the local LR dealer was there and the one on the stand was nigh on £50,000. Crazy money. If you want a 4x4 buy a Subaru and save a shedload.

Audi Q3 Q5 are overpriced for what they are ... An Evoque is a more modern car and better looking . It is also more capable 4x4 . But you haven't said why you need this type of car ?

Despite the undeniable proper 4x4 capabilities, the Evoque is more of a fashion car so you don't need a valid reason for wanting one, other than the want (coupled with the ability) to own one.

If I was in the market for this type of car it would definitely be the Evoque over the Audi.

What is also being forgotten is that simple fact that an Evoque has almost unrivalled retained value.

So a much better MSE choice than many similarly priced cars.

I do enjoy reading peoples comments about how you don't need a nice car and we should all be driving old knockers.

If the OP wants to buy a nice new car and can afford it then go for it.

    Who said that?
Nobody's saying that people can't spend their own money as they see fit. But this is also a forum about saving money. In that light it seems perfectly legitimate to make the observation that buying cars new is an expensive way of owning a car. If it were a simple car enthusiasts' forum, then such comments might be uncalled for, but it isn't.

You must be kidding!!!!, Range Rover drivers (even of the 'cheap' fake one) exceed even an Audi drivers wildest dreams of being a falace behind the wheel.

The Evoque is so hot that in China you can buy this clone (Land Wind X7) for around £12K. ;)

And according to a Chinese court ruling, following JLR complaint, this is not a clone/copy.

However, should you wish to get a Q3 clone instead the Chinese are already working on it. :D

I sat in both at a car clinic a while back. I preferred the interior of the Evoque but hated the exterior look and I dread what the convertible version is going to look like.

As said above, both are more fashion purchases than they are practical and (purely my prejudice here) I'd say the Evoque is more aimed at/bought by women and the Q3 (or BMW X3) by men.

Discovery Sport has the same mechanicals but a more practical aspect and should be better value.
I need to think of something new here...
