Anybody positively identify this as Knotweed?

If you read my posts properly - you will see that I don't state I'm an "expert". I state I KNOW an "expert". Her comments on dealing with people who take an irresponsible attitude to these things would probably count as unprintable - but every single person I have ever heard mention knowing her rates her highly and that lady isn't fazed by anything. She tells me I've been too "casual" in my acceptance of other peoples excuses for lack of action.
Just clarifying for the sake of those who don't read posts carefully:cool:

Having said that, I commend OP for being right "on the ball" at working out whats what and what to do about it. Good lad. Fingers crossed its that more "innocent" plant that also seems in the running for likely.0 -

This reads very much like , your an expert AS WELL as the other person ?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

OK, so it might be houttuynia, and one sniff of a damaged stem/leaf will settle it, if it is. 'Orange scented' is a polite way of describing the smell, but it's unmistakeable.
However, if there's no niff, or at least the wrong one????
Back to square one I suppose.0 -

Not odd at all if the OP happens to work in a primary school.
Better to put them on the school's site than... err....certain photo-sharing web sites.;)0 -
Another vote for Houttuynia - we acquired this when we moved and it's taken five years to get rid of it. Regular applications of glysophate will eventually do the trick. Don't bother to try and dig it out - the roots break and form new plants.
Worryingly, I've seen it for sale in two garden centres recently. Ghastly plant!0 -
It's a hidden page and not on the school website. I own the website and maintain it for them.Je suis sabot...0

Thank you, Useless. This is the trump card I have been waiting for. I will go for a sniff today when I see the neighbour (this doesn't come over quite as I meant it!).Je suis sabot...0 -

Not too sure. Here's our ID sheet from work (Local Authority Countryside Team):

The team uses the herbicide mentioned in previous posts - the most effective method is to cut the tops off and pour it into the stem.
Another ID method for Japanese Knotweed (can't definitely vouch for this one though) is to show it some sushi and see if it looks excited...0
