Wood burning stove installation costs

Hi all,

I'm looking for a little advice on the quote i've been given for the installation of a wood burning stove to replace the gas fire in my lounge.

The stove we think we're going to go for is the Esse 100 DD 5KW output. The double lined flue will come off the back of the stove, out through the wall and will then go straight up to the top of the roof (so quite a long external flue) as we have no existing chimney.

The quote we have been given is for £2,520 (inc VAT) for the installation. As yet, we haven't had any kind of breakdown of the quote, but to me that sounds excessive!? Obviously we have to pay for the stove itself and the hearth on top of this, so don't want to pay over the odds!

Can anyone advise whether this sounds right or not, please? I'm no expert, but when the guy came out to do the original survey he said that we should be able to do the whole thing for a budget of around £3K. His quote for installation has thrown that right out! Maybe I'm missing something...?!

Thanks in advance

Without knowing some specifics of the height of the house, difficulty of access, proposed "run", specifications of the parts, etc. it's hard to comment.

If you know the rough height of the house, you could do a "back of a fag packet" cost of bits using something like this.

*iflue chimney system appears to apply to your install.

Based on a fair few posts it appears prices have moved on "alarmingly" since i had my stove installed....
