EBay's 20% off voucher code fiasco

Following on from (above title) I am really annoyed.

I received the code on the last day of use and tried to use it to buy a bin item. Needless to say it wouldn't work so I bought the item anyway at 11.10 pm.

I phoned eBay who asked me to send a screenshot of the original 20% off voucher from them which I did.

I received a phone call from them yesterday to tell me I couldn't have the 20% off as I shouldn't have been sent the email in the first place and I hadn't used it in the date / time specified!

I am so annoyed as I did use it at the correct date and time.
I reasoned with the person that if it was a mistake it was their mistake and they should honour it but no joy.

I said that in future I wouldn't believe any vouchers they sent me and the operator said I could always phone up and check!!!! As if!

I am sorry for ranting on but wondered if anyone else has had the same outcome?

Are you saying that you definitely received the promo email and used it on the exact Ebay account that it was linked to in the email?


If yes, I wouldn't leave it at that given the number of people who reported that they should go ahead and buy and would receive a refund.


I would imagine there are many people who read about the code online who didn't receive the email, but still used it in the hope of receiving a refund, who will be dealt with in the way you describe.

Interesting because I had the same issue. Was sent the 20% off voucher by eBay and when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. Never had a problem before when they have sent me offers such as free listings etc.

Exactly that. It was sent to me on the morning of the 16 June to be used before midnight on that day.
It was for 20% off a £50 spend minimum £20 spend. I bought some scales which cost £27.40 with free delivery so the sale fitted the criteria.
After spending half an hour trying to get the thing to work, I ordered anyway and paid the full price with PayPal.
I didn't contact eBay until the following day when they asked for a screenshot of the original email.

I had difficulty sending a screenshot as I had never done it before but managed to send it later.
EBay acknowledged it and 2 days later got a phone call from the original woman I first spoke to who told me they were not going to honour it as I said in op.

Where do I go from here? I know it is a small amount but I am fuming as its the principle of it all.

I didn't get the discount either, it showed on my account and the disappeared off it. :mad: Couldn't get through on the helpdesk eitehr.
Tried the next day and of course ebay said they couldn't honour the discount, despite other people reporting that ebay had told them they'll get the refund processed.
My annoyance is withe bay, who changed the terms, closed the offer early and allowed some people the discount. Wrong on so many levels. :mad:
