Moto G Incoming Calls Ringer Does Not Work

My Motorola Moto G 1st generation has stopped ringing or vibrating with incoming calls. If I happen to notice the display on the screen I can accept the call. Everything else works fine. Sound works OK when watching Youtube videos for example.

In settings - sound and notification, the ring volume is set to the maximum level and vibration is on. It updated to v5.0.2 a few months ago from 4.4.something - I'm not sure if this is when the ringer stopped working.

I'm very happy with the phone generally so don't want to abandon it. Can anyone suggest what to do to solve this problem?

    TRY this;

    when you touch the 'Volume Up/Down button, you may see

    'None' , 'Priority' or 'ALL'

    Make sure ALL is highlighted

    (this is new alert for calls on the phone after the update)

    And when Priority is selected a star appears on the notification bar.

    And when you select Priority you can also specify the duration that it stays on that setting for before reverting back. For Priority to work you have to amend your Contacts to identify who Priority callers are by pressing the Star within Contact details for each person.

    You can set the time for no interruptions as well

    It was on priority so there was a star at the top in the long string of icons.

    It doesn't seem very intuitive that within settings there is no access to changing none-priority-all or any indication that this could be over riding the volume levels. Or have I missed finding it in settings?
