Moben - no obligation quote. my !!!!!!

Having never bough a kitchen before we had a look around and popped into Moben. Saw a kitchen we liked and enquired about prices.
We were told by the saleswoman that they dont give out prices as all kitchens are different etc etc and they could arrange a free, no obligation quote.
We booked in and were given a brochure. A couple of hours later, they called saying they had a cancellation tomorrow (Sunday) and did we want that?
The "Kitchen Designer" arrived early, which was good. And that was where it all started to go downhill.
We told him what we were after. He re arranged everything.
We told him what doors we wanted. He offered us everything but.
We asked about prices. He said he'd tell us at the end.
We told him that price was an issue when choosing things like handles, worktops. He didnt listen, telling us that he wanted us to have our ideal kitchen, and price shouldnt have a part in deciding that!
Anyhoo, an hour and a half later he had come up with our (his?!?!?!!?) ideal kitchen.
He asked us to guess the price, which we found odd for a quote when we'd told him that we'd never looked or bought kitchens before.
So we did. £8k.
he said oh. asked whether we were serious.
we said yes.
he looked blank, said its £11.5k. but if we took the account option with GE (alarm bells going off now!!) we could get 20% off, even with the hefty APR of the finance (his words!)
we told him that we couldnt stretch that far, and actually were a few grand short of what he had quoted.
Again he said "are you serious?" only this time follwed "You have wasted and hour and a half of my time. I might as well shut up and go now!"
so we stood up and showed him the door.
we couldnt believe it, being treated like that in our own home.
he'd ignored everything we'd said and then blamed us for wasting his time.
grrrr!
anyway, we phoned the store up today and complained about him.
they were really sympathetic and apologetic and couldnt apologise enough.

Thats sales for you!
MOBEN are known to be good quality and I think your initial price was quite low although i agree he wasnt very pleasant with you0 -
Well i wouldn't know how much a kitchen costs, so if they won't tell you and insist on coming round, then how are you supposed to know?!?! I hope the member of staff that was rude gets a kick up the back side for giving moben a bad name!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Just google Moben (or Dolphin or Sharps or Kitchens Direct) for reviews.
You will see what people think of them.
I personally wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.0 -
then how are you supposed to know?!?!
You may find this hard to work out but how about research?? try different companies and find out.
Just as you would when you buy anything thats not cheap- shop around0 -
My nan got a quote for her kitchen from Moben a couple of years ago. Their sales man came round and saw that she was having a lot of work done to her house and must have thought he had hit the jackpot. From what my nan told us her "no obligation" quote went very similar to yours and he tried to bully her into signing up for a £15,000 kitchen there and then (her kitchen is TINY btw) My nan wasn't the kind of lady to be easily bullied but even though the salesman only took no for an answer when my uncle turned up and told him to leave or he would call the police.
Incidentally she ended up getting her kitchen from a local firm of kitchen fitters, for a LOT less than Mobens quote, with quality kitchen appliances and all the features the moben salesman insisted where unique to them (such as the self closing draws etc)0 -
DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
a few years ago we got moben to install a kitchen, it's a long story, but the long and short of it was, during the installation the electrics in the house kept blowing but the guy would go into the fuse box and say "sorted, don't worry HA HA" a day after it was fully installed the electrics in the house blew again. we got another electrician round and low and behold there was a piece of TINFOIL, attached to a fuse. the whole electric box had now blown and we had to have the whole thing replaced. nightmare, we did complain to moben and they sent a representative round, but needless to say nothing happened. We were silly and let the whole thing drop and just carried on rewiring etc.
BUT NEVER NEVER AGAIN.:eek:0 -

Yeahright. :rotfl:
I would never, ever use Moben. Their quality is the same as everyone elses and the prices are extortionate.
The fact that no-one can give you a price on a indivdual item should set alarm bells ringing in anyone's head.
they are constantly advertsing for 'kitchen designers' so they must operate on a heavy commission basis because the salespeople they do employ are appaling.
If you want a cheap kitchen you get quotes from MFI, B&Q, Howdens, Ikea and you play them off against each other (not Ikea though - I can't imagine them playing that game). You ask for recommendations and organise your own fitting.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

That seems a bit harsh - surely that's what the OP was doing by asking for a quote! It's not the OPs fault that the salesperson wouldn't even give them a vague idea of how much their products cost!
OP - you can take solace in the fact that you did indeed waste his time, and serves him right!! That means someone else somewhere wasn't subjected to this style of 'quoting'. It's all very well to say that the price shouldn't matter with your 'perfect' kitchen, but sometimes you just don't have a preference between two choices and opt for the cheaper one!! I certaily wouldn't fall in love with door handles enough to make me want to spend over the odds on them, and I would probably have thrown him out the first time I asked for a price and he refused, so you must have the patience of a saint!0
