But all you have to do to get the £200 is to go and look at the car when you said you would. Then if you say you don't want the car, they refund the cash. I don't particularly like Evans Halshaw, but apart from the OP having a problem due to particular circumstances, I don't see any problem with their scheme, so long as you keep to your end of the deal.
  • I'm having the same trouble with Evans Halshaw - they wont refund my money back! Has anyone been successful in getting their £200 back from them ?
  • Has anyone been successful in getting their £200 back after circumstances changing and not being able to view the vehicle? Nothing was explained to me at all and now they say I can't have my money back. Its a lot of money to lose! Can anyone help please

A girl I know just bought a car in full, from Evans Halshaw. They then sold the car to somebody else and refused to hand her money back. They found her another car and then wanted £400 more from her! And being who she is, she didn't want any trouble and just paid it. I thought they were a decent company until I found that out

I'm waiting for £200 refund. They tried to sell me a bad deal with high APR. I viewed and liked the car but decided not to go ahead. The £200 is supposed to be refundable if you don't want the car but I have been waiting for a week. I hope I get it back or I will be in the showroom soon to ask for it.

They use high pressure sales techniques and the saleswoman brought out her manager 'to meet me as he likes to get to know all the customers' after I was not agreeing to her deal.

    I find them pretty disgusting.

I finally emailed them again late last night spelling out what I thought - that they owe me the deposit back, used high pressure sales (two of them together against me) and that their delay in refunding the deposit was making me feel they were still trying to claim that I had bought the car.

I had massive anxiety attack last night. I phoned their main customer care centre this afternoon and was told that 'today' they had initiated a refund. no doubt my email worked but the money isn't in yet - up to 5 more days but I got the name of the woman who said she looked on the system to say it had been initiated. Funny that, they did nothing until I threatened them and had to get really worked up and upset by it all. If not illegal it is sharp practice and really nasty and unfair on the consumer.

I hardly slept last night out of worry because they gave me the silent treatment and still had £200 plus my bank details! I had signed a form to agree to use of my information and was beginning to wonder what I had signed away - i'm not stupid I do check these things but they used dodgy tactics and kept try to avoid being transparent. Most unnecessary, desperate on their part and uncomfortable for me.
  • I must say that after 2 weeks of faffing-about and the suggestion of another week until the car was ready to collect (which I no longer believe) I gave up on EH and asked for my £200 back. Seems extremely difficult to get their sales staff to return calls. In the end I have gone to another dealer (not EH) and bought a very slightly more expensive car but have been treated like royalty.
I tried EH to buy my sons first car because I didn't want him to go through the "buying a car from under the railway arches" scenario like I did when I bought my first car. EH have been truly appalling in every single way and I wish I had had no involvement with them. Its very difficult to know how a company can get to the size they have acting like they do. I suspect they treat their staff as badly as they treat their customers.
I would avoid them at all costs. There is a reason why there cars are a little cheaper than other re-sellers. When I have (if it ever happens) my money back I think I will let Vauxhall know how much damage this company is doing to their name.
