Are you troll or just ill informed?

Seriously catch a grip. No they're not. Not even close. Different cars entirely. These Chevrolets are the company that was previously Daewoo.

Also, a Jazz is nowhere near the size of a Cruze or a Focus, and is considerably more expensive.

    From the GM Group site:
General Motors is home to Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet.

For a short few years, some Daewoos became Chevrolet. However, GM bought the name to try to get a 'small cheap car' outlet in the UK & Europe. It did not work.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Chevy Cruze is based on the same General Motors platform as Opel/Vauxhall Astra/Zafira Tourer/Cascada: GM Delta 2. They share many mechanical components, including floorpan, some suspension components, some engines and transmissions. Some Vauxhall/Opel part numbers are the same, so many Vauxhall Astra parts would fit.

Having said that, Chevrolet Cruze (AKA Daewoo Lacetti) is definitely the budget version, built to a price.

IMHO the main issue with buying one, apart from depreciation, is spare parts availability. Although GM claim that spare parts are freely available, majority of Vauxhall (ex-Chevrolet) dealers are not interested in holding spare parts for them. Once the warranty expires they are no longer obliged to sell Chevy parts under EU law, and this is exactly what is happening at the moment across Europe - spare parts are very scarce, dealer service prices are horrendous.

    Avoid.

Don't anticipate driving more than 2500 miles per annum. Mainly local, shopping centres, nursery etc.

For this sort of mileage I'd question whether it's worth buying a car at all. It would probably work out a huge amount cheaper to use public transport and hire a car on the odd occasion you need it. If you really are only doing 2500 a year, that's going to do the engine no good at all.

Well done Captain Obvious, however what was actually said was that a Chevrolet was "the same as" Vauxhall.

It is not. Daewoo / Chevrolet in Europe have always been budget cars based on "some" Vauxhall / Opel underpinnings, and whilst the Cruze is probably the least bad of what they produced, its still not up there with a Focus or other leading models.
