I bought this one over 2 years ago. Used it once in the hallway on plain carpet. After use you could not tell where the rug had been sitting (you know, like when you take a picture off a wall and can see the outline where it has been).
Vax Rapide XL
I paid £159.00 but Currys have them on offer.
I compared 3 machines Jan 2005

REVIEW
Product rating: **
we bought our bissell just over a year ago. soon after running out of warranty, it has been delivered to the local recycling centre.
why?
simply the quality of manufacturing is poor. this is acceptable at first, but after a year or so of use, not heavy by the standards of most vacuum cleaning it leaked, the screws holding it together were coming out of their threads and the machine consumed the very expensive carpet shampoo like a drunkard in a brewery - and yes we did adjust the settings.
yes, the machine does lift a lot of dirt and crap off your carpet, but you have to lift a lot of money out your wallet for what you get - and at the end of the day you may be better hiring a cleaner from your local diy store like focus.
we are going to try the hoover brush 'n' wash, which is about £70 cheaper and may be better value. one thing is certain, we wouldn't buy another bissell.

UPDATE
just to let you know i am not impressed with bissells service so far!!
ordered last friday and it arrived today (delivery in a week not bad) excitedly (sad but otehr women will understand:D ) opening the box, and its the wrong bloody machine.
they have sent me the aromapro which retails at about £199. I ordered the top of the range 2x select 9400E which retails at £299!!
On delving further into the box, not only had the sent the wrong machine, the wrong instructions are in the box for the wrong machine. I have got a set of instructions for a 3rd different machine!!!
Also you are ment to get some bottles of solution with every machine. This box had no solution in whatsoever!!!!
How many things can go wrong!!
I have called them up and they are going to send a new machine out and pick the wrong one up. They cant pick it up until the 28th as we are away until then.0 -
If I didn't already have one, I'd order this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bissell-7920-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B0000YQ3TI/203-9365201-8369549?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1187646261&sr=1-51
These are usually around the £200 mark, so Amazon's clearance price of £137.87 including free Supersaver delivery is a bit of a bargain!0
