Carpet steamer/cleaner wanted - recommendations please

Hello all,

My parents are looking for a good carpet cleaner/steamer to "shampoo" their carpet in the whole house.

Anyone know of a good one that is up to the job and costs circa £150?

WE bought an expensive Vax but it is fiddly and within a couple of years the flimsy plastic hose had gone brittle and perished.

So we looked around for something cheaper and came across the Bissell Quick Wash.It is like an old fashioned upright vacuum cleaner,and where you would have had a paper or cloth bag,you have the container for the water.it is really good and brings the carpets up a treat.There is nothing on it to perish and best of all it only cost £99.We ordered it from an advert in a magazine about 3 years ago,so I don't know if they still make it.But i certainly would not recommend the Vax,or any cleaner that sends the water down a thin hose pipe.

I bought the bissell quick wash off ideal world a few months back. Its great and sooo easy to use.

Looks like bissel it is then... how dirty were the carpets though and did it come up easily? Just wondering as their carpet has not been washed in 7 years... wondering it it will work!

There are still loads of Bissels around so may get a deerer one which can do the stairs as well...

Get a reconditioned one for around £110, I've had one three years and clean our carpets every three months with it, using cheap o solution from b and q which is £6 for 5 liters

How about this one? Text is difficult to read, but I got an insert in Guardian Weekend of 21 April. Haven't bought one myself though.

It takes 800ml and uses tap water only (no chemicals or detergents). Price is £59.99, micro fibre pads are £9.99 (set of 3). Plus £4.95 P&P per order.

Keep mentioning "dry steam" with it, i.e. no moisture left behind. Its motor is 1500W.

Do you really need to keep one around the house? I'm just about to hire one from No Frills DIY, for £20 X 24 hours. It'll do what I want and I don't have to find anywhere to store it.

hi, not sure if you have looked at the home-pure range? i have seen a few comparable steam machines that have been used for spot cleaner stains and think the homepure one is both the cheapest and the most powerful. for the best price try it from qvc as they have the cheapest price by quite a bit and give you a 30 day money-back guarantee....good luck!
