Very.co.uk charges

Options
Me and my wife moved house last year and got a fridge freezer from very in my wife's name. Four months later we had a baby boy and my wife started suffering from post natal depression.

Four months later I found a letter in my wife's name regarding not paying very. I rang up questioning the charges. Apparently my wife has not paid the payments which the extra charges was in the hundreds. I explained the situation about my wife and offered to pay in full for the item. But they said I had to pay all of the interest thus adding £260 just for missing 4 months. I told them I was not going to pay the interest as I thought because it was unfair due to my wife's circumstances. They said if I rang in advance they could of done something but my wife was not in a fit state at the time. They offered to reduce it by £50 but I said it was unfair and said they were trying to profit from my wife's mental health problems.

Is there anything can be done?

Was her post natal depression diagnosed by a doctor? Was she on medication for it. If yes, then just pay for the goods, and write them a letter explaining why you will not be paying the interest, making it clear that the condition was diagnosed.

If they then take her to court, at least she has a defence!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Not medication but was diagnosed and had a weekly health visitor.

You knew the item was bought on credit (as you bought it) and that your wife was unwell.

Why didn't you take control of it rather than expecting your mentally ill wife to do it?

As I stated I did not buy it. I thought everything runs through a direct debit. As I never use very. I did not expect my wife to handle it as I tried to sort out the mater myself. Did you not read my last message?

Nothing in that suggests your wife ordered it without your knowledge.

PND is not a "defence", there is no suggestion that she lacked capacity. All the judge would be interested in is whether the debt was incurred (yes) and whether the charges are valid (yes), hence a CCJ would be granted. By this point additional charges would be added to the debt, quite possibly doubling what they already owe.

    Not good advice!

How was very.co.uk expected to know that your wife was ill, you seem to blame them for something they have no control over, they giving you money off seems fair as they didnt have to do anything so I would just pay it

It's people like you that really bring down the forum. I am not blaming very but there are things in place with other companies that help people when unexpected thing occur. If everyone was perfect there would not be situations like reclaiming bank charges. But we know in life bad things happen, people lose jobs, get into debt or worse. My situation happen to be one of these. After reading up on very how there business model works is that they hope people miss payments. Like with how a lot of companies work they take advantage or make it as complicated as they can to the consumer. You obviously can't give proper advice so you end up blaming the person who asks for help. I'm sorry but your mentality is not suited to think of anyone but yourself. I just hope when you need help people belittle you.

I only found out yesterday. I will ring the financial ombudsman and find what my choices are. I apologise about my last post but I'm looking for suggestions and advice not to be treated like crap.
