Buyer gave wrong name now delivery office won't give her item

I sold an item, the buyer gave me her first name spelt wrongly (a couple of letters the wrong way round, eg sahar rather than sarah) and as she was not in when it was delivered, she had to go to the delivery office who aren't giving her the item.
It did not have a return address on so can't be returned to sender.
She has emailed asking what 'we' do, am I right in thinking this is a matter between her and royal mail? I have suggested she contact RM customer services and maybe show them the order details with the wrong name.
If she raises an item not received claim against me will I be able to win it on the basis that it has been sent but she just can't collect it from the delivery office as she gave me the wrong name?
I know ebay usually side with the buyer but would have thought it is clear in this instance that she is at fault?
Thanks

You didn't make it clear how you sold this - was it on Ebay in which case did she pay through paypal?
If so then her name/address will be listed on both sites. Are they wrong on both?0 -
If it is returned to you (which it will be if it is not collected) then you will have to refund in full.
I would ask the buyer to get on to Royal Mail, as normally all they want is proof of surname. They are not interested in the first name. Our postman only ever puts the surname and my wife has loads times collected items using ID that has her name but the item is in my name.
Otherwise if the buyer has the card then they can arrange redelivery to themselves or someone else. It won't matter what name it is in then.0 -
If you cannot prove delivery then you will lose any INR case regardless of whether your item is returned or not.
I'm susprised you managed to send it tracked without a return label though.
As above, just tell her to get it redelivered via the online system. I've never known the Mail centres to be quite so insistent on an exact match, they let me have all my son's post even signed for and specials as long as I show my address matches.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not putting a return address was most foolish and is likely to cost you twice, the money and the item.
Apologies for blunt reply, but there is not really a better way of putting it.
All you can hope is they allow you to claim the parcel back with the paperwork you have.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

It might not have been sent tracked. (The OP doesn't state what postal method was used) and they might just be relying on the buyer telling them that the package is still at the delivery office rather than seeing this online.0 -
Either you or the buyer need to get it redelivered on a date she will be in.

OR, when collecting
If the above (ID) is not available in the name of the person to which the item is addressed, you will need to bring three things:
The 'Something for you' card or 'Fee to pay' card
AND Photo ID of yourself (passport, driving licence, foreign national ID, military ID card, police warrant card, Royal Mail employee card, NHS medical card or senior citizen bus pass)
AND proof you live at the specific address to which the 'Something for you' or 'Fee to pay' card was delivered (bank statement, driving/television licence, utility bill or home insurance certificate)

Thanks, it is all sorted now she has managed to convince them that the item is hers. I think the person she first spoke to at the delivery office was a bit of a jobsworth.0

All this ID is nonsense. All people should need is the red 'we tried to deliver' card.
After all, that card will have been put through the letterbox of the recipient and I bet the number of examples of anyone getting a package via a stolen red card could be counted on one hand of a very clumsy butcher.0 -
I had this issue, someone spelt my surnname wrong, I just went online and scheduled it for redelivery
