Credit check for gov.uk identity verification?

Need to create a verified identity account to renew tax credit online. Does this identity verification leaves foot print on credit file?
I'm in the process of applying for mortgage so would like to avoid any unnecessary foot prints on my credit history.

It shows on my search history. The verification I selected didn't tell me or make clear it was going to do a credit search.
It then asked questions about what I took out in a certain month of 2010, which fortunately 2 of the 3 multiple choice answers I'd never had any credit from so answered from power of elimination!

Not sure if quite the same, but.

Happy to confirm that ID authentication through the government's Verify scheme using Experian does not create credit report footprints.

So as with other such searches, presumably only visible to you as it's your report and not visible to anyone else credit checking you.

Thanks all for your replies. Just to be on the safe side, I'd do it over the phone.

There is quite a bit of misinformation going on here. This is NOT a credit search. It is gov.uk using Experian to check your identity. This shows when you look at your file but it is NOT visible to any future potential lenders.

And you thought the CRA files were all about credit risk management :) I wonder how much more scope creep there'll be concerning the info they hold on you?

So for people to get the money they are entitled to they have to end up on Experian's black list??

If you need to create a verified identity account then it is not an 'unnecessary' footprint. Maybe unwanted in your view but certainly not unnecessary.
