Well - ignore to start with. If it becomes harassment with multiple notes, then that's the time to consider the local police.

I'm a bit confused though - when you say your house doesn't have a pavement? How does that stop you parking on your side of the road? Do you mean the road is so narrow that parking both sides would block it? Or that there are no gaps between driveways long enough to park in? As for "or the ones in the walk way vertical to the road" I presume you mean a row of houses that don't front on to any road but onto a walkway at right-angles to your road. Unless these people have garages and driveways in a separate block a walk away...
I need to think of something new here...

You really think the neighbour does not know anyone car park on any road.
And having a "quiet word" will put them right.
They are doing it because they are harassing the OP.
It has caused sufficient alarm and distress that they have taken to a public forum for advice.
People that deliberately harass other people are usually confrontational and do it to bait a response so they can escalate the situation.
Then your quiet word ends up with a full blown beating or worse.

That is why we pay for police, they are paid "to keep the peace"

And they would charge you with wasting police time. To make an accusation of harassment you need more than one or two letters. You need a diary of things that the neighbour does that constitutes harassment. It would need to be detailed and over an extended period of time. The police would tell the OP to stop wasting their time and sort it out between them. They would not get involved. The police are NOT there to arbitrate minor disagreements.

Its a housing estate, the roads only allow parking on one side, so all cars (3-4 that is) are parked opposite my house.

the opposite side has a 5ft wide pavement, outside of the fences. there are 2 houses and then a row of houses that do not front on the road , but on a pedestrian walk way. Everybody has a garage or a space, but there are a few more cars than spaces as it turns out. There is never a case where someone cant get a space at all. Worst case scenario, you are 50 yds further down the road.

I am just upset as I don't want to have bad relationships with my neighbours but also I don't want to stop parking there just because of this, as its not right.

In all fairness the note read "Please be more considerate with your parking. Like park outside your own house"

I can always just follow that and park outside my house, which means he wont be able to park outside his. And I will be blocking all 3 spaces.

    Hi,

This is just me being upset, but had to ask what people thought.

I live in a housing estate with garages and driveways for 1/2 cars. So the extra cars go on the road. My house doesn't have a pavement, which is on the opposite side, so all cars park on the opposite side. We are talking about 3-4 cars really. Pretty much the same cars, with the occasional car from further down the road.

Anyway the thing is that today I got a note from a neighbour telling me "I need to be more considerate about parking and should park outside my own house" !!

What am I supposed to do with this? the road is public. Outside of his fence, there is a 5 foot wide pavement, so not really blocking his front door or anything.

Should I go and try to reason with him? Not sure what the outcome can be if he thinks the road is his and I think it isn't. Plus does he imply that houses without a pavement (like mine or the ones in the walk way vertical to the road) do not have any entitlement to park on the road?

    Options:
throw the note in the bin, don't get yourself worked up, and carry on parking as you are.

go and speak to him and see where it gets you,

This is the whole thing. My house is on the right, with the grass patch, the cars are always parked like in the photo and the house in question is the one with the black door

Is it because he can't park his own car close enough to his house? If so there could be a bit of quid pro quo of working around each other so that it isn't always just one party that is having to park elsewhere. Having neighbour disputes can make a massive difference on quality of life, so it's worth being prepared to compromise to a reasonable point. How many cars are there in your household? How many in his? I think this has a bearing.

I don't think you can park outside your own house as you may well b e causing "unnecessary obstruction".

1: no they wouldn't. Please provide evidence in the form of a criminal prosecution.
2: No you dont. It is sufficient if you feel harassed (i dont agree with this, as it's subjective, but that is the law)
3: It can be a one off event, the police actually prefer to tackle these issues early on to prevent a long and drawn out investigation.
4: yes they are actually, thats what neighbourhood policing teams do.
5: can i suggest you refrain from posting on things which you have little understanding. Instead use the time to build up knowledge of said things.

I'd agree just ignore it. He knows it's your car so if he had any problem he could have spoken to you. I'd continue as you are doing parking as you are.

Looking at the pic, all I would suggest is that the beemer owner park a little more out of the way of the drive opposite and not in front of the black door. But would still avoid getting into too much debate with the neighbour.
