Sky - Phone Call's I haven't made!

Hi Guys,

I'm writing for a little bit of advice regarding a recent Sky bill my mother has received. My mum subscribes to Sky TV, Broadband and Sky Talk. She has a contract with vodafone, so the Sky Talk at her home is never used!

Despite this, her most recent bill shows £31+ worth of call charges. Almost £20 of these are to the "Speaking Clock", number 123. The rest, £11, are to very suspicious looking numbers that neither me or my mother recognise. All of these numbers are very similar e.g. 01512111811, 01512112111, 01512112112, 01512112115 etc.

I spoke to Sky regarding these calls the other day who informed me they would be looked at. Today I have received a text informing me the charges will not be refunded! I really am disgusted in sky's response and neglect of what appears to be an underlying issue with their phone line! I'm also concerned there will be similar charges on my next bill!

Anyone had a similar situation or any advice on to how to get these charges wiped off? My mother is on incapacity benefit and really does not have money to throwing away on what appear to be fraudlent phone calks!

I'd make an official complaint but in the meantime unplug the phone if it isn't used.

Was she in when these calls were made?

Some of these calls lasted 1 second, but we were charged 26p. Some phones were 4am. It should be clear from common sense that these calls have not been made by us! I have discussed this with sky, but my complaint has been rejected

A quick/dirty way for engineer to check if a line is live.

Spud17 beat me to it. I too would hazard a guess that BT's god awful contractors "Kelly Communications" have been 'borrowing' your mum's line (quite often) to test it's live by the sounds of it... Definitely complain and I would also put this scenario to Sky. I don't believe it's too uncommon.

Two months ago there was a call to 123 on my bill for 1 second - which cost 39p!

I couldn't understand why as it was made when I was at work and nobody else was home but it appears it would have been an engineer testing the line? That's terrible. BT refunded it thankfully.

Hope you get to the bottom of this.

have you tried calling your mobile from the landline too, and make sure it5s your number displayed on the mobi. whats happened before is work in the bt cab and 2 lines have been reconnected wrongly, you may have someone elses, and they may have your line......
