How disappointing, we have a separate washing machine and tumble dryer, but only space for the washing machine.

With second LO on the way, I have been looking at a combined unit to get the dryer out of the spare room. Please someone tell me that they are not all bad!

To be fair, I had a washer dryer and it would dry a full-ish load in a couple of hours. The timescale you've mentioned does sound excessive.

Have you tried a full load? if i just put a few items in my tumble dryer it takes forever to dry as they get stuck on the sides and don't tumble properly

I have a washer dryer (Hotpoint WDUD9640G)
I put it on for a 3.5 wash and dry cycle, and then, at worst, I have to put it on for another 30-60 mins to dry a full load which usually includes jeans, school jumpers etc.
I love it. It's great when there's not much space, and I can wash a load for the line and then put a second load on a wash and dry cycle whilst the clothes on the line dry.
It also has a "ready to wear" feature that supposedly washes and dries 1/2 items in 45 minutes, but alas, I've never tried this.

Tumble dryer balls (the plastic prickly ones) are your friend!
