Currys Washer/Dryer

Hi there,
I have a problem with a washer/dryer that I have bought from Currys, I had it delivered 2 weeks ago but only used it for the first time yesterday. The washer works great but the dryer doesn't, it's takes almost 3 hours to dry a pair of jeans and two polo shirts.
To me this is not fit for purpose, I did expect there to be a longer time than a standard dryer but this is ridiculous.
I have contacted Currys and they are insist and that they HAVE to send an engineer out to assess if there is a fault. Do I have to accept this or can I ask for a direct refund for the retailer as the goods are not as described??

You are saying that the drier is not as described but how do currys know this is true? (I'm not in any way implying that it isn't but the retailer must be given a chance to confirm that the goods are faulty.)
Let the engineer visit and one they have confirmed the fault, contact Currys again and ask for the machine to be collected.
Bear in mind that if Currys consider that you have accepted the machine, they may well try to insist on a repair rather than a refund.0 -
I've used several washer dryers in holiday cottages. They are nothing like normal tumble dryers, take forever, and are pretty useless.
I'm afraid yours sounds normal.0 -
Sounds about right ! I have a washer dryer, never use the dryer, it's a waste of time unless you want to dry one pair of knickers at a time.0

We used to have a combined washer/dryer many years ago (Zanussi). The dryer was a waste of time.0

got to agree with above posters the dryers on these combined units are useless0

Damn, how are they allowed to advertise special features like 'closet dry' that senses moisture levels and drys your clothes enough to put straight back in the wardrobe? Tried that....jumper (1 jumper) came out a steeming wet mess........
Isn't it misleading the customer??0 -
My washer/dryer is about 15 years old and it takes 2hours to do a few which dries well.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Being selling washing machines and washer dryers for over 30 years, your 3 hours for jeans does sound quite normal, the drying cycles in washer dryers are very enifficient compared to normal tumble dryers, it's to do with drum size, restricted air flow compared to ordinary dryer also they normaly use more water drying the clothes than washing them.0

I had a boyfriend who had a washer dryer.., it was bad enough to make me decide to never buy one myself.
If buying a large appliance, you would do well to look at reviews for a model to see if it does what you need and which are the best models, lots of reviews on a few different sites.
You might stand a chance if you try to return it as not fit for purpose, rather than as needing a repair.0 -

Why would you think this is an unreasonable request, all they have is your word that it is not working at the minute.0
