Buying a PC as cheaply as possible

No problem with that question.....
not sure what my answer is though! LOL!!!
I think at this stage in the game all i really want would be to be able to store photos on my computer, maybe be able to send them via email....share them in other words, maybe post some on forums, but that would be about it.
With CD's and DVD's i would like to be able to copy stuff onto blank CD's and DVD's.....i think that's what the rewriter is for....:D
I'm so daft when it comes to computers it's awful!0 -
actually going through the Dell process for purchase right now.
Wondering what do i do about the modem? Isn't that something that would come with my connection package with whoever i choose to go with later?
In other words do i have to sort that out with Dell now?0 -
Ok moved on from above.....now the lady on the phone at Dell is recommending that i go for Home Premium Vista instead of Business.....she said that it will better with the amount of RAM i've got and that i don't really need business.
Thing is there is no option for Home Premium. Is Business really going to be a problem for me?0 -
I paid £215.00 for an E-machine with similar specs to post 12.
PC World do refurbishments and paid via their website - my previous PC cost £400 five years ago... only broke recently. (I already had a monitor!)
I just add extra HD's and memory when I have the money (or from previous PC's).
You can always add extra's to it another day when you have more money!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
hi,
i know nothing either and have a couple of questions related to this.
do dell only accept credit cards? that is what it looks like. i only have a debit card.
secondly ebuyer looks good but i have not heard of it before so how can i know they are reliable?0 -
Well a friend of mine used ebuyer and was very happy.
I'm hoping Dell accept debit cards cos that's what i have. I haven't got that far yet because i still don't know if i'm ok to go ahead with Vista business following what the sales lady said (i've mentioned in a couple of posts above)0 -
just go for the cheapest vista option availableEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
-
Thanks Albertross!
the cheapest for that package is the business option. My concern is that it will be too complicated a system and/or require more RAM? The sales lady seemed to hint at that.
Just wondering if anyone here knows anything about Vista Business and can say it's ok to go ahead with the purchase.....bearing in mind i use computers for quite basic stuff.
Thanks for your time0 -
i think tomorrow i'll phone up Dell and see if i can swap Vista Business for Home Premium, even though it's not on the package. Can't get online at work so will have to phone...
Unless anyone here thinks i'd be better off with Vista Business
thanks0 -
If you don't need the fancy Aero interface & a few other bits you could go for the cheapest Home Basic* version, which would be more than sufficient for your needs. The RAM & your wallet/purse will love it too
.
But only if they'll actually sell it to you of course, & at a significant price reduction over the Business/Premium editions - I'd say bargain for £25-60 less. G
*see a quick comparison between the 4 versions - some of the 'extras' missing in the Basic version can be added with free third-party programs if you really need them0
