I could give you reasons for the no shows.

The film had not arrived to be loaded onto the digital system.

No unlocking key has been issued in time for the performance.

Film has not been loaded into the correct screen from the main internal server in a timely manner You can only load films into the local servers when a film is not playing on screen.

Projector has decided to breakdown. And film is not loaded elsewhere.

It has not been written into the time sheet. That has happened many many times.

There are others but these are the main ones.

As I said previously, the cinema will have had the film as they will have shown it in the Odeon Screen Unseen slot on Monday and this means it will also have been on the local server.

The kray twins film Legend is one I would not watch. Sad that they were labelled as legends. I met someone once who had the job of escorting one to prison. He felt the presence of evil and no amount of soap would take that feeling away

I think they're referring to the Legend of the Kray rather than calling them "?legends".

But I hate that some are lauding them too.

Were you there for the Monday performance? If not, how do you know it was on site, loaded and shown.

As for your remark above, not necessary .

Their are 2 servers in a digital set up

One is the main server. It has all the films, trls and adverts on it.
It is the server which sends the films, programmed to transfer manually, to each screen required the films etc that are required for the current week shows and the following week to be stored on the local server via the local Intranet which connects to all projectors.

It is also the TMS server. TMS is the 'theater management server'. Basically it has the software on it to start all the shows in all the theaters by the internal Intranet

The other server, known as the 'local server' is the server which has the films, trls and adverts that are only required for that specific screen for that week, plus storing the next weeks films in advance.

But because they show it in one screen does not mean that they have put the film in the local server / screen that required the 2nd showing.

It is to easy not to put a film on the local server by error. Either by not setting up the transfer or missing the booking when creating the running order for the local server.

If the film is not on the required server it can take time to transfer to that screen. Plus you can only transfer a film to a local server whilst that screen is not showing any film.

Considering most films now are between about 140gb to 190gb in size, it takes time to transfer as the system is not intrinsically fast.

The running order is now mainly programmed by the management in the office who are also doing all the other things they need to do. Mistakes are made.

If you see a technician on site, you are seeing a rare thing.

How do I know these things. I used to locally run the system in an Odeon for approx. 3 years.

There is many ways to mess up the ways films end up not getting shown.

And not by 'technical reasons' that most cinemas spout now days when they forget to put the film in the right screen.

Could be the film was called 'Legend' because basically all the other possible titles have been used already.

  • Does anyone on the forum have any insight into how the cinema chains/freebie providers (Sun perks etc) choose the locations for the showings?

I live near a Showcase (Peterborough) & a Cineworld (Huntingdon) and neither seem to get picked for the free showings (Pb got Entourage not so long ago) whereas I see a number of venues come up repeatedly.

The Palio is the oldest horse race in the world, and turns the Italian city of Siena into a high-stakes battleground of strategy, intrigue, and simmering machismo. In the eye of the storm stand the jockeys – adored if they succeed, despised if they fail. PALIO follows the legendary maestro Gigi Bruschelli, winner of 13 races and master of the intrigues that surround the Palio, and his former prot!g! Giovanni Atzeni, a handsome young contender driven by a fearless passion to become number one. This heart-racing new documentary exposes the notoriously closed world of this ancient race and the larger-than-life personalities of those involved in an epic and cinematic tale of Italian life in microcosm.

I live near a Showcase (Peterborough) & a Cineworld (Huntingdon) and neither seem to get picked for the free showings (Pb got Entourage not so long ago) whereas I see a number of venues come up repeatedly.

I don't know if this will help ...

... or how long it might take or how many similar responses are needed before anything is likely to be triggered ...

    ... BUT

On the Sun Perks booking page, where you select the film and then the location from those offered, the BOTTOM "location" entry is

    Other Locations

IF you select this, instead of a venue address appearing, another window opens which says ...

If there is no location near to you, then please tell us so by entering your post code below. We change locations regularly so your input is useful to us.

and there is an input field for your postcode

    Worth a try at least
