My fiance wont let me get a cat

To be fair, some cats are more 'loving' than others - anecdotally boys seem more affectionate than girls. So it may turn out that he is right. But I can't see why you can't have a cat, just point out that it'll be you feeding it etc. There is the danger that might lead to him having a dog
.
It would be a good idea to involve him in the selection process - get him along to a cat shelter and he might get carried away there and then!0 -
If he is really dead set against a pet, I'm unsure you'll manage to change his mind but how about going to local rehoming centres? He can meet differents cats and see how he likes them personality wise.
Or how about a rabbit? They make lovely pets and can live indoors.
My OH didn't particularly want pets...we have two dogs(and a rabbit! She lives outside)

Good Grief. This is why I'm so happy to be divorced now. It's so awful to want something so badly and be told you can't have it! It's like being a child again and having to ask Mum and Dad for everything....
Talk to him about Siamese. They are really "dog-like" and can even be walked on a lead, and they talk back to their owners.
But I mean it when I say TALK, don't ASK. He is not the boss of you. You should have an equal say in the decision.
Good Luck and don't forget to update us when your little kitten arrives!!0 -
I'd take him for a nice day out to a cat sanctury open day .....and who knows HE may fall in love with a cat there and then and it'll all be *his* idea !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Judging by his reaction to the visitor you get at the moment he will love a cat..........:D.
My blokie was like this. I already had the cat, at first he was petrified of it and said all cats needed shooting. At this point he got ditched ( a few years ago now).
We recently got back together, and they lurve each other.....................:rotfl:
And mine is a bit of a psycho ninja warrior type, not a cuddle-monkey.
He feeds her, talks to her, has some odd belief that if she follows him that makes him a better person than me, checks where she is now and again.....and would run after any other cat that went for her if she got out the front (she's old now).
He needs to see some catteries Asap , all good advice above.
Can't wait to see new kitty.....;)Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Those are good suggestions, thank you.
He does want a pet, specifically he wants a dog. The only issue is that he wants a dog without the commitment of a dog (e.g. walking it 3 x a day). He basically wants a happy loving pet that'll greet him when he comes through the door and snuggle up on his feet at night. I feel like a cat would be a good compromise. He however has it in his head that cats aren't lovable.
I'll talk to him again tonight.
Are you sure about that? My wife was bizarrely under the impression that I wouldn't take our dog out (before we got him), fast forward a few years and she was complaining that I'm always going our running or cycling off road with our dog! Although I must admit I have recently cut out the long runs and no longer run more than 5 miles (I was picking up too many injuries on longer runs of about 10 miles), but that is still a decent walk for him, especially when you consider that I/we also take him out for long walks in addition to the runs.
When I asked why she thought that I wouldn't take him out, she couldn't come up with a logical reason.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
